A MAGA flag in a dorm room could be dangerous for college students
Colleges are supposed to prepare students to go out into the world to succeed.
But they have become a joke to most of the country for how far they go to protect anyone on campus from being offended.
This infantilizing behavior has made them incubators of people who cannot function in the real world.
A college in Florida is training its resident assistants how to manage the possibility that someone living in a dorm room could show their support for former President Donald Trump.
The University of Tampa held a training for resident assistants that taught them how to respond to a student feeling “unsafe” after finding one of Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) flags.
Young America’s Foundation (YAF), a campus conservative group headed by former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, discovered an instructional slide about this situation.
“You just returned from class and one of your residents asks to speak with you. He states that he feels unsafe in his room and needs an immediate room change. He goes on to state that he feels unsafe and threatened because his roommate put up a ‘Make America Great Again’ flag in the room and that he is a member of YAF,” the training slide states.
It raises the question if a student who showed support for Vice President Kamala Harris would be treated the same way.
The University of Tampa considers a student who joins YAF a potential threat to his fellow classmates.
Conservative students respond to training slide
University of Tampa YAF Chair Nicole Gillis lamented the sad situation, where the college tuition and fees cost more than $33,000 per year.
“This is the unfortunate state of higher education in America right now. Universities are indoctrinating students by painting conservatives as evil,” Gillis said. “This seemingly small example in an RA training at UT implies they think that conservatives are dangerous and that students should be afraid of people with conservative ideas.”
YAF Chief Communications Officer Spencer Brown joked that the university’s staff needed to sit through some “mandatory tolerance training.”
“The demonizing of conservative students and infantilizing coddling of fragile leftists who outrageously claim to feel physically threatened by intellectual diversity does a disservice to students and ought to be roundly mocked,” Brown said.
“A school such as the University of Tampa — or any with wildly biased trainings like this — has no business calling itself an institution of ‘higher’ learning. Clearly, University of Tampa administrators and student employees need some mandatory tolerance training,” Brown added.
There are a growing number of members of Generation Z who are growing skeptical over the value of paying more than $100,000 for a college degree.
The University of Tampa is helping to confirm those suspicions.
