Florida sheriff takes down massive human trafficking ring
Human trafficking has exploded during the Biden-Harris administration.
The wide open southern border has been a veritable gold mine for the human traffickers with the Mexican drug cartels and other criminal groups.
Millions of illegal aliens trying to enter the country after President Joe Biden rolled out the welcome mat is creating a nightmare for local law enforcement.
Florida law enforcement ran a 102-day undercover sting operation known as Operation Summer Shield that resulted in 148 people being arrested and seven victims recovered.
Two of the victims were minors and the other five were adult women.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said the operation was launched to prevent children from falling victim to traffickers when they are out of school this summer.
“From April 29, the 102 days during summer until Friday before school started, we really ramped up our efforts to combat human trafficking to assure that no child fell victim to human trafficking operations,” Chronister said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office rented a hotel room to lure suspects who were exploiting women and children for profit or people looking to pay for sex.
Record human trafficking bust for Florida sheriff’s office
The first day of Operation Summer Shield led to records being broken by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
“That day, they broke a record for the number of individuals wanting to purchase sex on a single day,” Chronister said. “That was until the second day, when they smashed that record almost an hour before the operation started.”
Chronister highlighted some of the most heinous criminals that were arrested during the operation.
39-year-old Dontae Burton was exploiting a 17-year-old girl who was being forced into prostitution.
“This sick scheme went on for about three months until we received a tip, and our human trafficking squad quickly went to work. A federal arrest warrant was issued, and Burton was taken into custody,” Chronister stated.
The sheriff said that no one is above the law.
“It doesn’t matter who you are or where you work, you’re never above committing a crime, you’re never above the law and we will hold you accountable here,” Chronister said. “What we’ve seen is a trend when we’re doing these operations, whether you’re in the military, whether you’re a physician, whether you’re a paramedic, whether you’re a law enforcement officer, no one is above the law, and you will be held accountable and prosecuted here in Hillsborough County.”
State Attorney Suzy Lopez said that these are often tough cases to prosecute because the victims are terrified to come forward and testify.
“We stand with you,” Lopez said. “Every survivor in our office gets a victim advocate. That victim advocate helps them through the entire court process both inside the courtroom and outside the courtroom to make sure they feel safe and have access to the resources in our community.”
The rise in human trafficking is another grim fact of life with the open borders policy of the Biden-Harris administration.
