Getting picked up at the bus stop on the way home from school is usually a smooth experience.
But in the Sunshine State things can go wrong in a flash.
And a Florida mom was arrested at her daughter’s bus stop for this jaw-dropping reason.
Florida mom joins her daughter in brawl at the bus stop
Kids these days are increasingly having their parents fight their battles for them.
One Florida mom took that idea a little bit too far.
Kathryn Stephanopoulos, a 34-year-old mother, was going to pick her daughter up from Flagler Palm Coast High School in Palm Coast, Florida when all hell started to break loose.
Stephanopoulos joined a fight between her daughter and two sisters.
Her daughter was reportedly friends with one of the girls before a falling out this summer.
Stephanopoulos put her daughter’s former friend in a headlock during the fight.
The high school girls had agreed to get into a fight on the way home on the bus.
Stephanopoulos was hit in the face during an altercation with a Stanley cup.
“Yo, not the mom!” one student can be heard shouting in the video.
“After viewing the full video, I observed that the other juvenile and her mother were engaging in a fist fight at the intersection while [redacted] could be seen standing by,” an affidavit obtained by Law & Crime said. “[Redacted] got involved when the mother of the other juvenile proceeded to take [redacted] to the ground with two arms wrapped around [redacted’s] head and neck area.”
Florida woman sets a bad example for her daughter
Parents are supposed to break up fights between high school students and not join them.
Stephanopoulos’ daughter started another fight with a student who tried to break up the original one.
The school bus driver had to call 911 to get the police involved to stop the fighting.
Stephanopoulos was arrested for felony child abuse for her role in the fight.
One of the girls involved in the fight was arrested for aggravated battery.
Her daughter is facing possible misdemeanor charges for the incident.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said that no one was seriously injured as a result of the commotion.
“Instead of deescalating the situation, we have a mother who joined in the fray, setting a bad example for her child and those at the bus stop,” Staly said. “She certainly won’t receive mother of the year with her actions.”
“Parents need to set the example and not be part of the problem,” Staly continued. “Luckily, no one was seriously injured, but now a mother is facing serious charges for losing control of her temper.”
Stephanopoulos “expressed her regret and embarrassment” about getting involved in the fight.
She ended up with a bruise and swollen face from the brawl.
Now, Stephanopoulos faces a September court date after she posted bail with a $10,000 bond.
She learned the hard way that she cannot fight her daughter’s battles for her.
