Disney has made promoting wokeness a core value of the company.
No area of its sprawling business is being left untouched.
And Disney gave one classic theme park ride a woke makeover that left fans up in arms.
Disneyland’s Peter Pan ride gets updated for woke sensibilities
Disney is famous for injecting wokeness into its TV shows and movies.
But the company’s popular theme parks are not safe from the House of Mouse’s woke agenda.
The Peter Pan’s Flight ride at Disneyland in Anaheim, California was one of the original attractions when the park opened in July 1955.
Visitors in the indoor ride travel to various scenes from the classic Peter Pan animated film.
One of the scenes is getting updated after it was deemed to be culturally insensitive.
The “Never Land Tribe scene” featured an Indian chief in a headdress with drummers next to him.
Disney after nearly 70 years decided that this scene needed to update for the woke sensibilities of modern audiences.
The Indian chief and the drummers have been replaced by a more culturally sensitive depiction of Native Americans.
“One portion of the ride is getting a makeover, however. The so-called ‘Never Land Tribe scene,’ which has for decades featured a chief in a headdress alongside drumming braves and a seated Tiger Lily, will now feature more benign-looking drummers and a more active Tiger Lily dancing alongside her grandmother. The chief is gone entirely,” Deadline reported.
Disney wants its rides to change with the times
Disney claimed that the modernized version of Indians was keeping with current times.
“Imagineers have a longstanding history of making updates and enhancements to attractions and experiences, so they remain fresh and relevant. We consider ourselves constant learners and as we identify ways that can make our attractions and experiences more authentic and relatable, and our stories connect more deeply to our guests, we make thoughtful changes,” Disney officials told KTLA.
Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida are both getting the updated Peter Pan ride.
Woke overhauls for rides have become commonplace at Disney’s theme parks.
The Pirates of the Caribbean ride removed a bride auction scene after critics claimed it was sexist.
Women were bound with a sign that said “Auction, take a wench for a bride” over their heads.
Another scene that depicted pirates chasing women was changed to having them chase after food.
The Splash Mountain log flume ride at Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom was closed and replaced after accusations of racism.
It had characters from the now erased from history 1946 Disney film Song of the South.
“I’ve felt, as long as I’ve been CEO, that Song of the South was – even with a disclaimer – was just not appropriate in today’s world,” Disney CEO Bob Iger told shareholders at a March 2020 meeting.
Song of the South was targeted by woke activists for its “outdated cultural depictions” of the South in Reconstruction after the Civil War.
Disney is constantly overhauling its theme parks to please the woke outrage mob.
