Florida requests information on noncitizen voters in the state
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made the Sunshine State one of the leaders in election integrity.
Now, he is trying to protect the state’s voter rolls ahead of the November election.
The Florida Department of State sent a letter to the Biden-Harris administration demanding records on noncitizens who could be on the state’s voter rolls.
DeSantis Communications director Bryan Griffin warned that Florida takes election integrity seriously.
“Illegal aliens will not vote in Florida,” Griffin said. “Florida will continue to identify and insist on the removal of non-citizens from Florida voter rolls ahead of the 2024 election.”
The letter was sent to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Immigration Records and Identity Services Directorate associate director Tammy Meckley.
“Noncitizens cannot vote in Florida elections,” the letter states.
Meckley was asked to take steps to remove noncitizens including illegal aliens from Florida’s voting rolls.
Federal law requires that USCIS turn over information about the citizenship status of its residents to states.
The USCIS was warned that if it did not turn over the information in a timely manner Florida would seek legal remedies.
Ron DeSantis vows that noncitizens will not vote in Florida
Conservatives in Congress are trying to attach the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act to a stopgap government funding bill.
The bill would require that anyone registering show proof of citizenship.
An incredible 46 states have government offices that hand out voter registration forms that do not require any proof of citizenship.
The 1993 National Voter Registration Act known as the Motor Voter Law requires that most states offer anyone getting a driver’s license or government benefits the opportunity to register to vote.
Democrats are fighting the measure tooth and nail complaining that it is already illegal for noncitizens to vote.
The fact that it is against the law for illegal aliens to be in the country did not stop more than 11 million from entering the country during the Biden-Harris administration’s border crisis.
DeSantis made it clear that illegal aliens would not be voting in Florida at a press conference.
“You have to be a U.S. citizen to vote in any Florida election,” DeSantis vowed.
He slammed Democrats for fighting the SAVE Act.
“It’s interesting how in the federal [government] you have people crying about just saying on the budget that you have to be a U.S. Citizen to vote in any of these elections coming up in November,” DeSantis said. “Why would that be something that is controversial? The reason why is because some of the cities around the country, we haven’t allowed in Florida, have registered noncitizens to vote in the elections.”
DeSantis noted that cities claim that noncitizens registering are only for local elections.
“How are you going to police?” DeSantis asked. “Once you’ve said they can vote they can get a ballot, and they do.”
