A Florida car thief made the worst move of his life trying to steal a Corvette

The Chevrolet Corvette is a great American sportscar.

It caught the eye of one criminal who wanted to press his luck.

And a Florida car thief made the worst move of his life trying to steal a Corvette.

Florida criminal begs for help after becoming trapped in a Corvette

Stealing a car has become much more complicated than when a criminal could bust off part of the dash panel and hotwire it.

Gone are the days when drivers used keys to start the ignition.

The key fob system in modern cars keeps them from starting unless the fob is in the area.

Ravesh Rabindranauth, a 33-year-old, learned the hard way about the challenges of trying to steal a modern car when he broke into a Chevrolet Corvette in a parking garage in Miami, Florida.

A witness saw him break into the car and called the police.

The Corvette’s owner, Julio Solano, came out to discover that the would-be car thief was locked in the car and struggling to get out.

Video surveillance captured the pair’s exchange.

“My Brother,” Solano told Rabindranauth. “This is not your car. This is my car. But why are you in my car?”

Rabindranauth has the gall to beg Solano to release him from the Corvette.

Solano was astounded that the would-be thief of his car would ask him to be freed.

“No, you can’t get out,” Solano replied. “We’re calling the cops.”

“For what?” Rabindranauth asked.

“What do you mean for what?” Solano responded. “This is grand theft auto. Are you trying to steal my car? What are you doing? You can’t be doing that, fam. You can’t be doing that.”

Corvette owner thought it was a prank

Police arrived on the scene and arrested Rabindranauth who tried to claim he was sent to the garage to pick up a vehicle.

He was charged with burglary of an unoccupied conveyance.

The locks on the Corvette do not work without the car’s key fob in the general vicinity of the ignition.

Rabindranauth did not realize the sportscar had a manual release under the seats.

Solano told NBC Miami that he thought the attempted robbery was a prank at first.

“I didn’t know what was happening,” Solano said. “I didn’t know if it was a joke… that’s why I took out my phone and started recording.”

He quickly realized that he was dealing with a hapless criminal.

“After I stopped recording, he got aggressive and started to hit the window and got upset,” Solano explained. “He was looking for something in his backpack.”

Solano told Fox News host Dana Perino that he was “shocked” to discover someone trying to steal his car after getting his morning coffee.

“I was in shock, to be honest with you. I just came back from Starbucks from eating my bagel, and all of a sudden, to my surprise, there’s a gentleman inside my car,” Solano stated.

Thankfully for Julio Solano, he and his car were unharmed in the incident, and he could walk away from the confrontation with a good story.
