The cost of a family vacation to the Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Florida has exploded in recent years.
A five-night trip to the theme park for a family of four, parents with two children, can cost more than $7,000 with travel, tickets, lodging, food, and other expenses.
Taking the family to Disney World for summer vacation now costs a small fortune.
And the price of vacation there is supposed to increase another 5%.
One of the ways that Disney empties the pockets of its guests is with the price of food in its resorts.
Having to pay outrageous prices for food at the movie theater, a sports game, or a theme park is a painful fact of life in President Joe Biden’s America.
Disney fans discovered that a new restaurant at the theme park in Florida is marking up the price of food to a whole new level.
The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers has two locations in the Indianapolis, Indiana area and is opening a third at the BoardWalk Inn at the Walt Disney World Resort next year.
Rogers’ cakes have become a favorite with celebrities like former talk show host Oprah Winfrey, actor Steve Martin, and the crew on NBC’s Today Show.
Menus prices have already been posted for the Cake Bake Shop that will be located in the old ESPN Club.
A slice of Gwendolyn’s Famous Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake is $26.
The shop’s signature Oprah’s “O” List Mint Chocolate Cake costs $24 a slice while the Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Roll cake is more affordable at $22 a slice.
The cake shop is engaged in highway robbery of Disney guests
Disney fans on the social media site Reddit called the prices at the Cake Bake Shop “obscene” and “offensive.”
“That’s the price of an entire cake at Amorettes in Disney Springs!” a Reddit user said about the price of a cake slice.
But the complaints about the Cake Bake Shop’s prices were not limited to the cakes.
“$8 for a coke is shockingly offensive even for Disney World,” another Reddit user said.
The restaurant will offer an assortment of baked goods including pies, cookies, pastries, and chocolate truffles.
“Prices are out of control. Keeping in mind that this is not a Disney-owned or operated restaurant. This is an independent owner charging $32 for a hamburger. Good grief!” a review on Google noted.
Gavin Doyle, founder of the website MickeyVisit, best known for the Disney World Crowd Calendar, told the Daily Mail the Cake Bake Shop has some of the highest prices at Disney World.
“There are plenty of food and beverage locations where you can find lower-cost but high-quality offerings including at restaurants right next door to this location at Disney’s BoardWalk,” Doyle said. “The anticipation around the location casts a big spotlight on the new restaurant and the menu since so many people have walked by and wondered what the new spot will include.”
A trip to Disney World could require a second mortgage in the future.
