Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took the gloves off on Donald Trump during the GOP Presidential Primary.
Loyalty is important to Donald Trump.
That is why Ron DeSantis was stunned to learn that Donald Trump may tap him for this important cabinet position.
Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis used to be friends and political allies.
Donald Trump’s endorsement in 2018 helped catapult DeSantis to victory in the GOP Primary and on to the Governor’s Mansion that fall.
But their friendship ended during the GOP Primary when DeSantis and Trump went at each other’s throats.
DeSantis spent most of his campaign attacking Trump for running up the deficit, for placing Anthony Fauci in charge of the pandemic, and for not following through on his promise to build the wall and put Hillary Clinton in prison.
However, DeSantis endorsed Donald Trump after he dropped out of the race and helped him raise money to defeat Kamala Harris.
The two now consider the Primary battle to be water under the bridge, but they are not the political allies they were when DeSantis first ran for Governor in 2018.
Donald Trump has been busy selecting his staff and announcing his cabinet nominees since his victory over Kamala Harris.
Trump has selected several change agents, such as Robert Kennedy Jr. for Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence, and Kash Patel as FBI Director.
He originally selected Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz as his Attorney General, but the Deep State attacks led to his withdrawal a few days later.
Trump selected Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to replace Gaetz as his nominee.
Bondi is not the only Florida native selected by Trump.
Trump has filled at least nine positions with people connected to the Sunshine State.
But rumors are circulating that Trump may be considering another Floridian for a top cabinet position.
Trump previously nominated Fox News Channel’s Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary.
But the left-wing media launched a vicious smear campaign against Hegseth that may lead to his withdrawal or a failed Senate confirmation.
“Hegseth’s road to confirmation of at least 50 votes plus a tie-breaking J.D. Vance has met bumps in the road after media outlets published a private email from Hegseth’s mother,” Florida’s Voice reported. “As many as six Senate Republicans – ‘perhaps more’ – are not comfortable backing Hegseth’s confirmation.”
And rumors are circulating that Donald Trump is considering Ron DeSantis as Defense Secretary should Hegseth’s nomination be derailed.
DeSantis still has two more years left to serve as Governor.
But according to the Washington Post, “Donald Trump is considering Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) to replace his embattled pick for defense secretary, according to two people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations.”
“The two men discussed the matter personally on Tuesday, one of them said,” the Post added.
DeSantis has a military background.
He worked at Guantanamo Bay as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) in the Navy and was deployed to Iraq where he advised a Navy SEAL Commander on operations.
However, Trump senior staffer Stephen Miller said the reports are just rumors.
“Until we hear it from President Trump, then it’s all just chatter,” Miller told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo. “Here’s the important point, though, it’s going to be President Trump that’s picking the next DOD secretary, not Kamala Harris.”
Only time will tell if DeSantis will be the next Defense Secretary.
