A veteran journalist dropped one bombshell about Ron DeSantis’ future no one expected

Ron DeSantis is term-limited as Florida Governor after the 2026 Midterm Elections.

He could be facing a big decision about what comes next sooner than he thought.

And a veteran journalist dropped one bombshell about Ron DeSantis’ future no one expected.

Plugged-in political journalist says Ron DeSantis could replace Pete Hegseth

President-elect Donald Trump surprised the political establishment in Washington, D.C. when he nominated Fox & Friends Weekend cohost Pete Hegseth to serve as his Secretary of Defense.

Hegseth is a combat veteran with the Army National Guard and a political outsider who could reform the increasingly woke Pentagon.

The Washington, D.C. swamp launched the same character assassination against Hegseth that was deployed against former Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

RINO U.S. Senators Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) are reportedly working behind the scenes to kill Hegseth’s nomination.

One rumored name to be Trump’s top backup plan for Secretary of Defense is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis served in the Navy as Judge Advocate General (JAG) and deployed to Iraq where he served as a legal advisor to the Navy SEALs.

His background would make him almost guaranteed to get confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Veteran political journalist Mark Halperin claimed his sources told him that Trump would eventually replace Hegseth with DeSantis as the nominee for Defense Secretary.

“President Trump doesn’t like the attacks. He also doesn’t like how the attacks have been handled. He did like, I’m told, how aggressive team Hegseth was yesterday,” Halperin stated. “But they’re running up against a group of senators anywhere between four and eight, I’m told, who are not inclined to vote for Pete Hegseth for a variety of reasons.”

Halperin is a well-connected journalist who reported that President Joe Biden would drop out of the Presidential race three days before it happened in July.

“As for DeSantis, you know, there are people in MAGA world who are dead set against this, but there are lots of things that Donald Trump likes about it,” Halperin said. “And again, my best sources are saying right now, if you were going to bet — it’s Trump world, so you never know — but if you were going to bet, you’d bet that by the weekend, Pete Hegseth likely will be out and DeSantis will be named to the job.”

Pete Hegseth defends himself against smear campaign

Hegseth compared the hit job against him to the one that Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh faced during his 2018 confirmation hearing.

He told former Fox News host Megyn Kelly that a U.S. Senator told him they were using the Kavanaugh playbook against him.

“I had a member, not 45 minutes ago, look me in the eye in private, just he and I, and say ‘That’s what they’re trying to do to you,’” Hegseth said. “‘That’s their playbook. Get ready for more, and they’re gonna make it up, just like they have so far. All anonymous, all innuendo, all rumor, nothing sourced, no verification and they’re just gonna keep doing it, because you’re a threat to them. You’re a threat to their system. You’re a threat to all the things in Washington, D.C., the Swamp, the things that people have rejected. You’re a threat to that, and so they’re coming after you.’”

Hegseth noted that Republicans held the line with Kavanaugh and eventually confirmed him despite the pressure.
