Florida sets tourism record after left-wing travel advisories
Florida has smashed tourism records since the state bucked the so-called public health experts and stayed open during the pandemic.
The Sunshine State’s tourism industry has continued to reach new heights under the leadership of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis announced that Florida set the record for the number of tourists visiting the state on social media.
It’s official: Florida just broke the record, again. Last year, we had the highest visitation numbers in state history, and tourists spent a record $131 billion in Florida,” DeSantis wrote on X.
He noted that the record was smashed despite left-wing activist groups urging boycotts against the state.
“That’s an increase of 5% over 2022—despite ‘travel advisories’ issued by left-wing activist groups seeking to drum up hysteria about our state,” DeSantis added.
DeSantis’ war against left-wing indoctrination in schools and wokeness made him a target for the Left.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) issued a travel advisory for Florida in May 2023 because DeSantis signed a bill outlawing critical race theory in government schools.
“Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Before traveling to Florida, please understand that the state of Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of, and the challenges faced by African Americans and other communities of color,” the NAACP travel advisory stated.
NCAAP chairman of the board of directors Leon Russell was revealed to be a Florida resident, but he announced that he would not be moving from the state that he alleged was oppressive.
The boycott against Florida utterly failed.
Tourists ignore the left-wing boycott
The NAACP’s boycott of Florida did not make a dent in the state’s tourism industry.
Out-of-state tourists spent $131 billion in Florida during 2023.
Tourism accounts for 9.5% of the jobs in the state.
“Florida can’t be beat,” DeSantis said. “I’m proud of this new record set for the state. Everyone loves the free state of Florida.”
Visit Florida President and CEO Dana Young credited DeSantis for another successful year for tourism.
“The numbers speak for themselves: Florida’s tourism industry is unmatched,” Young said. “Thanks to the Governor’s leadership, our state has surpassed expectations year after year.”
“These incredible achievements reflect the dedication of our tourism partners and the unwavering appeal of Florida as the top destination in the world,” Young added.
More than 140 million people from the United States and around the world visited Florida in 2023 despite the NAACP’s travel advisory.
Cancel culture is losing steam as more Americans simply tune out the rantings of the left-wing fringe.
