And a Florida man’s joyride in a stolen Rolls Royce ended in the worst way possible.
Florida man crashes stolen Rolls Royce into a fast food restaurant
A Florida man thought he hit the jackpot when he was able to steal a Rolls Royce.
His dreams of a joyride were dashed when he crashed the luxury car into a fast-food restaurant.
Malik Patterson, a 21-year-old, stole a Rolls Royce Cullinan SUV out of the valet line at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort just after 2:00 am.
Patterson was spotted by the Fort Lauderdale police speeding down Broward Boulevard.
Before they had the opportunity to chase him, he lost control of the Rolls Royce and slammed into a Checkers fast-food restaurant.
Patterson fled from the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by the police.
The Checkers location was open at the time of the crash, but no one was hurt.
He only made it about 5.5 miles before the crash ended his joyride.
The fast food restaurant suffered heavy damage after the Rolls Royce slammed into it near the drive-thru window.
And the crash totaled the Cullinan which carries a price tag of more than $400,000.
The SUV’s airbags deployed and the front end of the vehicle was destroyed.
Rolls Royce owner has a laid-back attitude about his pricey ride being stolen
Patterson had outstanding arrest warrants in Broward County, Florida, and Placer County, California.
He was charged with grand theft auto and resisting arrest without violence.
The owner of the Rolls Royce Cullinan had a surprisingly nonchalant attitude about having his more than $400,000 SUV stolen.
“I was sleeping and there was a knock on the door, saying that [my] car was taken from the valet and we found it at Checkers over here on Commercial Boulevard, so I was like, ‘Great,'” the owner recalled.
“I’m going to say I’m not shocked, I mean, it’s a Rolls Royce and people like to steal things and take a little bit of a joy ride. But this joy ride didn’t end up too fun for this person because he’s locked up and the car’s totaled so,” the owner continued. “What are you going to do?”
Patterson’s days of joyriding appear to be coming to an end.
He is being held in the Broward County Jail awaiting a court appearance.
The Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort noted that their valet service is managed by a third party.
“We are aware of an incident that occurred overnight involving our third-party valet company. Upon learning of the situation, local authorities were immediately contacted. Both the hotel and our independently owned and operated vendor are cooperating fully with police on their investigation,” a Hilton spokesman told CBS Miami.
The crazy antics of the Florida man can happen at any time of day and place.
