Byron Donalds officially declared for Florida’s Governor race.
He is seeking to replace one of the most popular Republicans.
And Byron Donalds had one message for Ron DeSantis that he never saw coming.
Byron Donalds and Casey DeSantis could be on a collision course
Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) made it official when he declared that he was running for Governor on Fox News host Sean Hannity’s show.
Donalds had been teasing a run for Governor for months.
President Donald Trump gave him pre-endorsement just days before he officially launched his campaign.
Florida has become an increasingly Republican state in recent years, and the winner of the GOP Primary would start out as the heavy favorite to be the next Governor.
Donalds might be getting some competition in the Republican Primary.
Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis could be jumping into the race to replace her husband.
She has reportedly been contacted by major Florida Republican donors about running.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is wildly popular with Republican voters in the Sunshine State.
His wife had a 57% approval rating with Republicans in a University of North Florida poll.
Ron DeSantis has not quieted the rumors that she could be looking to throw her hat in the ring.
He claimed she would be a better candidate than him and could take Florida to the next level because of her conservative principles.
The Florida Governor threw a few jabs at Donalds after he declared his candidacy.
“You know, that’s what I want to see,” DeSantis added. “I want to see them delivering results for the people of Florida. We deliver it here all the time for the people of Florida, and that’s what we need to be doing.”
Byron Donalds responds to Ron DeSantis’ barbs
Donalds took the high road after DeSantis’ remarks during an appearance on The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show.
He said that he would love to eventually earn the endorsement of DeSantis.
“DeSantis had won the Primary, and the radical Left tried to go at him because, you know, of a phrase he used referring to his opponent,” Donalds recalled.
In the 2018 Election, DeSantis warned that his opponent, Andrew Gillum, could “monkey this up” if he became Governor.
Democrats and their media allies made a mountain out of a molehill.
“I went and did media and stood in the gap for him because I believed he was going to be a great Governor,” Donalds said. “And I was proven right. He has been a great Governor. You know, I was there to help him win in 2018.”
He hoped that he would be able to pick DeSantis’ brain.
“At the end of the day, I just want to be able to pick his brain,” Donalds added. “I know there’s a lot of advice he has. I want to be able to lean on that. And so I would love to be able to earn his support. And I think there’ll be a time for that.”
Florida could be headed toward a rough and tumble Republican Primary for Governor next year.
