Republican Governors sending illegal aliens to sanctuary cities changed the election
Democrat Fox News host Jessica Tarlov appeared on the Next Question with Katie Couric podcast where they discussed one of the turning points over the border crisis.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and former Arizona Governor Doug Ducey began to transport illegal aliens north in 2022 to sanctuary cities.
Abbott and Ducey stuck them on a bus with a one-way ticket to sanctuary cities thousands of miles from the border.
Democrats and their media allies denied that the border crisis was happening at the beginning of the Biden-Harris administration.
Tarlov called DeSantis’ decision to fly illegal aliens from Texas to the wealthy resort island of Martha’s Vinyard, Massachusetts in September 2022 as a masterstroke.
“On the immigration front, there was a tendency amongst Democrats, and especially Democrats who were discussing the issue, so people who do interviews or are part of the media, to minimize it over the first two and a half years when there were a lot of people coming in here,” Tarlov explained. “And I thought that it was a stunt when they started busing migrants … to Martha’s Vineyard. It was the smartest thing they ever did.”
Former CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric had friends tell her that sending illegal aliens to sanctuary states and cities raised the profile of the immigration issue.
“Well, it’s interesting ’cause I have a friend who lives in Florida, and I said, ‘What did you think of Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott taking some of these immigrants and moving them to northern states?’ And she said, ‘I thought it was great because nobody really was paying attention before that.’ And I do think that this untold story was the strain on social services and communities, particularly along the border, this huge influx of immigrants was having,” Couric said.
Couric admitted the media had a blind spot on illegal immigration.
“And I think the mainstream media, however you define that these days, kind of ignored that story to its peril,” Couric added.
Donald Trump credited his victory in part to immigration
The record numbers of illegal aliens eventually became too big of a story for Democrats and the media to ignore.
Vice President Kamala Harris was running on claiming she would secure the border during the election because illegal immigration had gotten so out of hand under her watch.
President-elect Donald Trump told Meet the Press host Kristen Welker in an interview that he won the election because of the border and groceries.
“I won on two things, the border and more than immigration,” Trump said. “You know, they like to say immigration, I break it down more to the border, but I won on the border, and I won on groceries.”
The actions taken by Republican Governors like Ron DeSantis forced the media to cover illegal immigration and kept it in the national spotlight for the Presidential election.
