A cruise vacation went wrong after a man stepped off the ship to get this bad news

Jan 2, 2025

Going on a cruise is supposed to be a time to relax and get away from it all.

One man had his dream vacation ruined in an instant.

And a cruise vacation went wrong after a man stepped off the ship to get this bad news.

Deadbeat dad’s cruise ends in an arrest

Dominic Weaver, a 47-year-old from Louisville, Kentucky had been on the run for more than a decade over unpaid child support.

He owed more than $100,000 in unpaid child support for multiple children.

The deadbeat dad took a cruise that left Miami for the Caribbean in what he thought was going to be a dream vacation.

Weaver stepped off the ship in Miami after the cruise and was promptly arrested for his unpaid child support.

Local law enforcement arrested him, and he was transported to the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections for a vacation behind bars.

Louisville police said Weaver had never paid a dime of child support that he owed and had two outstanding felony warrants.

Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell told WDRB that the deadbeat dad owed between $114,000 and $120,000 in back child support for four children.

O’Connell said that Weaver had been on the lam for several years.

“I don’t know when he left, but he fled the jurisdiction, and from the date of his sentence until today, and even today, he’s not paid one cent of child support,” O’Connell said. “He was found, fortunately, but this is the interesting part by the Miami Police getting off a cruise ship last week in Miami.”

Weaver owed so much money that his name appeared in the local paper in a list of the worst offenders for nonpayment of child support.

O’Connell admitted that the tactic has become less effective over the years.

A ticket to the state prison for not paying child support

Weaver was given five years’ probation for a 2019 conviction for flagrant nonpayment of child support.

O’Connell claimed that Weaver was one of the worst offenders for nonpayment in Kentucky.

“This is one of the most egregious events that brings something to light that I think I’ve ever seen,” O’Connell stated.

He added that his office goes out of its way to cooperate with people that find themselves in this unfortunate situation.

“Our office does everything we can to work with people that have this obligation,” O’Connell said. “I mean everything we can, you know, to the extent of even helping find employment and do things like that.”

Weaver has more felony charges coming his way over nonpayment of child support.

“Two more of those are ready for indictment again of more felonies,” O’Connell explained.

O’Connell is ready to throw the book at Weaver.

“I’m going to ask the court at the next opportunity to revoke his sentence and sentencing to four years in the state penitentiary for this offense,” O’Connell stated.

Dominic Weaver will be spending a taxpayer funded vacation behind bars after he tried to duck his child support responsibilities.
