Democrats have fallen on hard times in Florida.
They need a new scheme to become competitive again.
And a Democrat megadonor has one awful plan to help his party win in Florida.
Top Democrat donor in Florida floats a third-party gubernatorial run
Florida has gone from being the biggest swing state in the country with elections that were known for going to the wire to becoming a solid red state.
Democrats in the state have a steep hill to climb to become competitive again.
Personal injury lawyer John Morgan was one of the biggest fundraisers for President Joe Biden and banked rolled many of the left-wing ballot measures in Florida.
The Florida-based lawyer claimed he left the Democrat Party after Vice President Kamala Harris was installed without a Primary.
Morgan realizes that the Democrat Party’s brand has become toxic with voters in Florida.
He told Politico that he could run for Governor in the 2026 Midterm Election under the banner of a new “Capitalist Party.”
Morgan is a critic of the rise of “Democratic socialists” like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and her “Squad.”
“I don’t know if Trump is a stable genius, but he’s a f***ing genius,” Morgan said. “He tapped into something the Republicans never saw, which was anger and populism on that side.”
He claimed that he would campaign as a “compassionate capitalist.”
Morgan made headlines after the election when he said that Kamala should never run for office again during an interview with NewsNation host Chris Cuomo.
He pointed to her raising more than $1.5 billion for her campaign yet finishing with $20 million in campaign debt.
“Remember the movie Mad Max when everybody was just doing whatever they wanted, end of the world?” Morgan said. “That’s what happened here. All of a sudden, everybody’s got the keys to the candy store, ad buyers, talent, and consultants. There’s 100 days to do it, and the money started pouring in, pouring in.”
Democrats consider using third parties in Republican-leaning states
Florida Democrats have almost no chance of winning a statewide election in 2026.
That is why Morgan wants to rebrand under a third party to avoid being dragged down by the Democrat label.
He is still a Democrat, but he hopes he can fool voters into thinking he is an independent.
There is not much evidence that Democrats trying to disguise themselves as third-party candidates will have much success.
High-profile independent candidates who were backed by Democrats lost races in Nebraska, Utah, and Kansas after they became the de facto Democrat candidates in the race.
U.S. Senator Angus King (I-ME) left the Democrat Party in the early 1990s and became Governor of Maine as an independent.
He warned that running without a party label brings major challenges.
“Running as an independent is a difficult job because you don’t have a party apparatus,” King said. “I think there may come a time when there will be more people running as independents. But right now, the structure does not lend itself.”
Democrats would rather produce outlandish schemes to win elections than reform their party.
