A Florida babysitter was arrested for one sick crime that put the parents through hell

Jun 13, 2024

Parents put a lot of responsibility in the hands of babysitters to look after their children.

But in the Sunshine State, one set of parents lived out an episode of Cops

And a Florida babysitter was arrested for one sick crime that put the parents through hell.

Florida man arrested for possession of fentanyl and illegal gun while babysitting

A 19-year-old Florida man was arrested for possession of fentanyl and other drugs along with an illegal gun while babysitting two young children in his apartment in Melbourne.

“This little wanna be gang banger and drug dealer was actually babysitting two little kids when he was arrested with enough fentanyl in his possession to kill over 126,000 people!!” the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office wrote on social media.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Investigations Unit went to raid Riley Thompson’s apartment for “trafficking in fentanyl and trafficking in meth.”

Thompson ran from the scene when the agents arrived and tossed drugs and a gun while making his escape.

“Apparently Thompson never got the memo that if you run from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office you are only going to go to jail tired,” Sheriff Wayne Ivey said on social media.

A chase ensued that eventually resulted in Thompson being apprehended.

Brevard County Sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant of the 19-year-old’s apartment where they found a nightmare situation.

Two young children were in the apartment alone with a large quantity of drugs near them.

Deputies found more than 175 grams of what is suspected to be methamphetamine, multiple THC vape cartridges, over 100 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, suspected cocaine, and three guns including a sawed-off shotgun.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said that 253 grams of fentanyl which would be enough to kill 126,000 people.

Thompson was taken to “Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge” where he is being held without bond.

He faces three counts of trafficking methamphetamine, three counts of trafficking fentanyl, possession of cocaine, possession of psilocybin mushrooms, possession of a short-barreled shotgun, and child neglect.

It is safe to say that Thompson’s days as a babysitter are finished.

“It sickens me to think that this little scumbag not only had enough fentanyl to kill such a significant number of our citizens, but also that he left two little helpless children alone inside an apartment with fentanyl, meth, cocaine, and psilocybin mushrooms!!” Sheriff Ivey said.

Fortunately, the children that were under Thompson’s care were unharmed during the scary ordeal.

“Thanks to the quick actions of our Agents and team, Thompson’s little butt is now locked behind bars where he belongs, and the two kids have been safely returned to their family with DCF [Department of Children & Families] also being made aware of the incident!!” Ivey added.

Sheriff Ivey was worried that the system could go easy on Thompson and said he would keep his eye on his case.

“Folks, this is one of those cases to be sure to watch how it proceeds through the criminal justice system because if he gets out on a BS bond amount or the charges are reduced, something is sad wrong with our society!” Ivey stated. “You can bet I’ll be tracking it because enough is enough!”

The Florida Man is the last person that parents want to turn to as a babysitter.
