A Florida journalist revealed one secret about Matt Gaetz that had Democrats on red alert

Dec 31, 2024

Matt Gaetz was one of the fiercest fighters for the conservative agenda in the House.

He is trying to figure out what is next in his political career after he left Congress.

And a Florida journalist revealed one secret about Matt Gaetz that had Democrats on red alert.

Matt Gaetz might not be done with politics yet

Former Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was the victim of a vicious smear campaign from the Swamp after he was nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be his Attorney General.

The Republican establishment and Democrats wanted to keep him out of the Justice Department at all costs.

Gaetz resigned from Congress after he was nominated and withdrew his nomination rather than be a distraction to Trump’s agenda.

He took a job hosting a 9:00 pm show every weeknight on One America News Network (OANN) beginning in January.

Florida political journalist Marc Caputo claimed that Gaetz could have his eye on a return to politics in the 2026 Midterm Elections.

“Gaetz has hinted that he’s not done with politics, even if politicians in D.C. want to be done with him,” Caputo wrote.

The conservative firebrand spoke at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in Phoenix, Arizona where he hinted that a run for Governor or Senate might be in his future.

“There’s a good chance Trump would endorse Gaetz, whom he nominated to be the next attorney general before his hasty withdrawal, should Gaetz choose to jump into either race,” Caputo stated.

Two potentially appealing options for Gaetz in 2026

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is term-limited, and a big Republican field is expected to vie to replace him in the 2026 Midterm Elections.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) is leaving behind an open seat after he was nominated to be Trump’s Secretary of State.

DeSantis is going to appoint a temporary replacement, and a special election will be held in 2026 for the remainder of Rubio’s term.

Gaetz could potentially challenge for either position with a Trump endorsement.

“Matt never got a commitment from the big guy to endorse him in 2026; he probably knew it was too much of an ask,” a Trump source stated. “Could Donald Trump endorse Matt Gaetz? Definitely. Matt is loyal. Matt is MAGA. But he needs to earn it like everyone else.”

Florida pollster Kevin Wagner predicted that Gaetz with a Trump endorsement would be a factor in 2026.

“The short answer is I don’t know what happens to Matt Gaetz,” Wagner said. “The incoming president could endorse him in 2026, and in that case, I wouldn’t bet against him in Florida.”

The House Ethics Committee released a hit job report against Gaetz based on hearsay and unreliable witnesses.

Caputo reported that some Republicans believe that the former Representative could overcome the smear campaign against him.

“Some fellow Republicans agree that negative saturation media coverage isn’t as deadly as it used to be, especially in GOP politics, and that politicians with their own standalone brands like Gaetz are better built than others to survive scandal when scandal no longer seems scandalous,” Caputo stated.

Matt Gaetz could have the chance to make a political comeback in 2026 if he chooses to get back into the fight.
