Making a call to 911 is supposed to be reserved for a serious emergency.
One resident of the Sunshine State discovered it could make his life worse.
And a Florida man called 911 and ended up getting arrested after this awful mistake.
Florida man calls 911 during a burglary and gets arrested
Everett Brown, 54-years-old of Frostproof, Florida may go down as one of the dumbest criminals in the history of the Sunshine State.
He made one huge mistake after he reported a crime.
A group of teenagers had been harassing Brown at his home in Frostproof.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd revealed the crime on his morning briefing.
He said that a 14-year-old broke into Brown’s home and whacked him over the head with a red broom handle before running off.
“That’s called burglary and battery,” Judd said. “Felonies.”
Brown decided to call 911 after he was assaulted by the teenager and that is where everything went wrong for him.
Polk County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene to investigate and made a stunning discovery in Brown’s home.
Cocaine and drug paraphernalia were sitting in plain sight of the deputies while they inspected the crime scene.
“Everett forgot to hide his cocaine before he had us investigate the crime, so he went to jail for possession of cocaine and paraphernalia,” Judd said. “I told you – you can’t make this up.”
Phillip Sutton IV, a 14-year-old, was arrested on charges of burglary and battery and confessed to the crimes.
Brown was booked into the Polk County Jail and released after paying a $5,000 bond.
“Mr. Everett didn’t deserve to have his home broken into & be battered by this hooligan, but he should have hidden his cocaine before dialing 911,” Judd explained.
Polk County Sheriff’s deputies managed to nab two criminals off Everett Brown’s 911 call because he was too careless to hide his drugs from law enforcement.
Polk County Sheriff has developed a national following
The 70-year-old Judd has been the sheriff of Polk County since 2004 and was elected to another four-year term this year.
Judd has become famous for his Morning Briefing series on social media about his office’s arrest of criminals in Polk County.
He has built a following of more than 700,000 people on the Chinese social media TikTok.
Judd has made national headlines for some of his colorful quotes about dealing with criminals.
The Polk County Sheriff warned criminals who broke into residents’ homes that they would meet an unpleasant end.
“If you value your life, you probably shouldn’t do that in Polk County, because the people of Polk County like guns, they have guns, I encourage them to own guns, and they’re going to be in their homes tonight with their guns loaded,” Judd said.
“And if you try to break into their homes, to steal, to set fire, I’m highly recommending they blow you back out of the house with their guns,” Judd added. “So, leave the community alone.”
Grady Judd is one of the many no-nonsense sheriffs in Florida who maintain law and order.
