Most criminals look for small and valuable items to steal, such as cash, jewelry, electronics, and firearms.
But every now and then a criminal goes whole hog.
And a Florida man tried to pull off a $100,000 heist that had mouths watering and stomachs growling.
Crime has become a major problem in Democrat-controlled cities across the country.
Burglaries are one crime that happens far more often than most Americans realize.
According to FBI statistics, a burglar strikes close to every 30 seconds in the United States.
This equals two burglaries every minute and more than 3,000 burglaries per day.
In 2019, there were 1.4 million homes broken into in the United States, with the average loss from a burglary being $2,661.
Small and expensive items that can be easily converted to cash are the most popular targets for thieves.
Of course, there are exceptions.
Some thieves will target larger and more expensive items that are much harder to steal.
But one Florida man tried to make off with one of the tastiest items on the planet.
Police in Daytona Beach, Florida responded to a call about a 53-foot refrigerated semi-trailer containing frozen bacon that had been stolen from a parking lot.
The truck was valued at $80,000 and the bacon was valued at $100,000.
“Surveillance video captured the theft and showed a blue SUV canvassing the area and parking next to the stolen trailer,” NBC5 reported. “The SUV left and then a semi-truck arrived, hooked up the trailer and drove off,” NBC5 continued, before adding that “a blue Volvo XC 90 was captured by a license plate reader near the scene of the theft, and another license plate reader later captured the trailer, followed by the Volvo.”
The Miami-Dade police found the Volvo a few days later with 40-year-old Marcos Gonzalez-Bernal driving it.
Police records showed that Gonzalez-Bernal was already on probation for charges relating to grand theft, cargo theft, and racketeering.
The officers arrested him since his license was suspended and a judge granted them a search warrant for his car and phones.
According to cell phone records, he was in the area on the same day the bacon theft occurred.
Police arrested him and booked him into jail.
Under Biden bacon is expensive, but $100,000 worth is a lot of product.
But it is nothing compared to the $5 billion Americans spend annually on bacon.
The average American eats 18 pounds of bacon per year.
According to the U.S. Census data and Simmons National Consumer Survey (NHCS), 268.04 million Americans consumed bacon in 2020.
Marcos Gonzalez-Bernal tried to get away with stealing $100,000 worth of bacon.
But good detective work found him first.
