Showing respect toward others is important.
Disrespect can lead to severe consequences in environments like prison.
And a Florida man tried to teach his neighbor one awful lesson about disrespecting his family members that landed him behind bars.
In the past, children were taught to respect their elders and adults were mindful of showing respect to others during their daily activities.
But disrespect is becoming a problem in society.
Virtually all humans want to be respected by others.
In the mafia, respect was considered paramount and served as the foundation of their hierarchical structure.
There were severe consequences for those who disrespected the code or their superiors.
In environments like prison, respect is still important and must be maintained at all times.
“Disrespect in prison can lead to violent situations where prisoners may feel they have to prove they are not weak,” Prison Fellowship reported. “Sometimes prisoners feel they have to do things they don’t want to do in order to survive in the prison environment.”
Outside of the mafia and prison, respect has been losing its importance over the years.
But apparently showing respect still means everything to one Florida man.
Police in Cape Coral, Florida, recently responded to a call about a disturbance at 2:05 a.m.
When police arrived on the scene, the homeowner told them that 36-year-old Luis Vargas Izquierdo had been outside of his home threatening him with weapons.
“The victim said Luis Vargas Izquierdo threatened him while holding a glass bottle with a cloth wrapped around its top, claiming it was a Molotov Cocktail,” Fox13 reported. “He added that Vargas Izquierdo threatened to throw it at one of the vehicles in the driveway and light it on fire.”
Wikipedia defines a Molotov cocktail as “a hand-thrown incendiary weapon consisting of a frangible container filled with flammable substances and equipped with a fuse (typically a glass bottle filled with flammable liquids sealed with a cloth wick).”
“In use, the fuse attached to the container is lit and the weapon is thrown, shattering on impact,” Wikipedia wrote. “This ignites the flammable substances contained in the bottle and spreads flames as the fuel burns.”
It is named for Vyacheslav Molotov, the foreign minister of the Soviet Union during and after World War II.
According to the police, Izquierdo also pulled out a sword and tapped the homeowner’s vehicle windshield while threatening him.
A Ring doorbell camera caught the incident on video.
Izquierdo told the officers that he went to the victim’s home to send a message about disrespecting one of his family members.
“The investigation confirmed that Vargas Izquierdo brought a glass bottle containing a small amount of gasoline to create a Molotov cocktail and brandished a sword during the incident ‘to make a point,’” Fox13 reported.
Police arrested the man and charged him with possession of a firebomb, which is a third-degree felony.
