Homeownership comes with its own set of headaches.
But there are situations that no one could ever prepare for.
And a Florida man was stunned after he discovered one shocking reason his roof had a hole.
A Florida home is the victim of a mysterious accident involving a large chunk of ice
A Florida man is dealing with a mystery after a large chunk of ice fell from the sky and crashed through his roof.
Ice came falling from the sky in the Seminole Woods neighborhood of Palm Coast, Florida.
Florida had a recent cold snap that brought record snow and cold to some parts of the state, but Palm Coast was experiencing typical balmy winter weather at the time.
Neighbors were stunned when chunks of ice began raining down from the sky with one landing a direct hit on a home’s roof.
“The caller reported multiple pieces of ice scattered across the roadway, with one striking a neighbor’s home,” the Palm Coast Fire Department wrote on social media. “Upon arrival, crews discovered a hole in the metal roof and remnants of ice that had penetrated into the living quarters.”
Palm Coast is about 40 minutes north of Daytona Beach on Florida’s Atlantic Coast.
The Florida man and his family were home at the time, but no one was injured from the falling ice.
A tarp was placed over the metal roof until it could be repaired.
Residents of the neighborhood were shocked by what happened.
“Couldn’t believe it,” resident Mike Bishop told Fox Weather. “Never heard of it in my life. First time.”
“It’s a really big hole, really,” neighbor Allen Alisy stated.

Authorities have a potential suspect for where the ice came from
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) opened an investigation into the Florida home damaged by the falling ice.
FAA officials suspect that ice could have been the result of a commercial aircraft.
“Water may leak out and form ice on the outside of an aircraft,” an FAA spokesman said. “As the aircraft descends and the temperature warms, the ice can melt and fall off.”
“When the FAA gets reports about such incidents, the agency tries to determine whether the ice could have come from an aircraft and then identify aircraft potentially involved,” the FAA spokesman added.
Flight radar data found the neighborhood where the Palm Coast home is located had multiple flight paths overhead.
Passenger jets begin making their initial descent into Orlando International Airport near the neighborhood.
The planes will drop from 30,000 feet to 20,000 feet in the area.
A similar incident happened at the beginning of 2024 to a California couple.
Michael Reese and Leah Ferrarini had a large chunk of ice fall through their roof.
They filed a $1 million lawsuit against JetBlue alleging the ice fell from one of the airline’s Airbus A321 jets.
Reese and Ferrarini were asleep in their bedroom when the watermelon-sized chunk of ice went through their roof and nearly hit them.
The couple claimed they “suffered severe emotional distress” from the fear of planes flying over their home and insomnia.
