The Left has been trying to handcuff the police since George Floyd’s death in 2020.
Now they have the vehicle to do it.
And a Florida sheriff revealed this woke scheme Democrats have to transform the police.
A federal takeover of law enforcement
A long-held goal of Democrats has been trying assert more federal control over local enforcement.
Federalizing the police takes away control from local communities and puts it in the hands of Washington, D.C.’s “Swamp.”
Putting local law enforcement under federal control also opens the door to Democrats requiring every member of a police department to be unionized.
The police reform movement that sprang up after George Floyd’s death in 2020 uses the federal government to impose left-wing pro-criminal policies on every local police department in the country.
And allow public sector unions to collect more dues that are used to help elect Democrats.
Representative John Rutherford (R-FL), a former Jacksonville, Florida sheriff, told Fox News Digital that Democrats are pushing legislation to force woke cultural and sensitivity training on police departments throughout the country.
“It is imperative that law enforcement officers are well-trained on agency policy and procedures and held to the highest standards that keep both officers and the public safe,” Rutherford said.
This is an unconstitutional overreach of federal power over localities.
“However, it is not the role of Congress, nor should it be, to tell local agencies what that training should look like,” Rutherford added.
Rutherford said he opposed any efforts to nationalize the police.
“Public safety depends on a diverse network of law enforcement agencies at the state and local levels,” Rutherford stated. “This bill would tie the hands of local and state police agencies and require them to meet national standards overseen by presidential appointees and bureaucrats in Washington.”
Woke politics comes to police training
Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN) introduced the Police Training and Independent Review Act to fundamentally transform how the police are trained.
The bill would require recruits at police training academies to receive instruction on racial bias, cultural sensitivity, and enhance ethics training.
Recruits would also be trained on how to interact with the disabled and new immigrants.
Police officers who are involved in incidents involving deadly force would be investigated and prosecuted.
Representative Clay Higgins (R-LA) called the bill “another dangerously ridiculous bad idea from the woke Left.”
Representative Pete Stauber (R-MN) said Cohen’s legislation was another attempt to “defund the police.”
“Even after the failures of their extreme ‘Defund the Police’ movement, radical Democrats continue to demonize the brave men and women who protect and serve their communities,” Stauber said. “These anti-cop politicians don’t want real reform, they want to eradicate law enforcement altogether, and proposals like this continue to incite violence against them.”
Democrats may have temporarily downplayed their support for defunding the police.
But they are going to keep trying to hamstring law enforcement from doing their job and shifting control to the “Swamp.”
