Being a teacher is a thankless job.
The kids today are an entirely different breed of students.
And a Florida teacher had the worst day of his life after one scary crime at school.
19-year-old high school students attack a teacher
The biggest concern that teachers typically have in the classroom is keeping their students on task.
A pair of 19-year-olds jumped their teacher at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Jayvis L. McClover and Roddrick McQueen approached a male teacher at 2:00 pm, “verbally threatening to attack him,” according to Fort Lauderdale.
The two high school students began a “synchronized physical attack” on the teacher and “repeatedly punched the teacher in the face and head with closed fists.”
McQueen and McClover knocked the teacher to the ground and continued to attack him.
The teacher was curled up in the fetal position while his attacker wailed away at him.
Dillard High School security staff broke up the fight and pulled the two thugs off the teacher.
“All you saw were a crowd of kids and they jumped him,” a Dillard student said about the security guards.
The teacher suffered from “swelling and bruising and reported pain in his back as a result of the attack.”
Police arrested McClover and McQueen and charged them with battery on a public or private education employee.
High school students stunned by the attack on a teacher
Florida Department of Education Board Member Daniel P. Foganholi condemned the attack and called it “a failure of respect, discipline, and accountability.”
“No educator should fear for their safety while doing their job,” Foganholi wrote on X. “Schools must be places of learning, not battlegrounds. Safe schools should be a safe place for everyone—teachers, students, and staff alike. We need real solutions: stronger disciplinary policies, better security measures, and a culture that respects and protects our teachers.”
Dillard High School junior Vincent Fortune told Local 10 News he was shocked to see the fight.
“It was just unexpected,” Fortune said. “It was crazy because they were just on him and everybody was just watching.”
McClover and McQueen are banned from the high school’s campus and cannot have any contact with the teacher.
“I was amazed – like, it’s just crazy,” a Dillard student said.
McQueen was placed under house arrest with a GPS tracker while McClover was given a $15,000 bond.
“I just seen, like, the guy, the teacher, he was talking to one of the students, and he was like, what you gonna do about it now? And then them boys just started fighting,” Dillard senior Rich Madnan said. “I guess what happened was, the teacher was talking to them and they didn’t appreciate it, and they just started fighting.”
McClover’s attorney asked the Broward County, Florida judge to reduce his bond, noting he was on track to graduate.
“Counsel, he and another individual, without any provocation, walked up and started punching a teacher in the face, beating him,” the judge replied. “He’s a danger to the community. $15,000 bond. Have a good day.”
