A Florida woman confessed to one bizarre addiction that left everyone shaking their heads

Sep 9, 2024

Addiction can make regular people do crazy things.

But some guilty pleasures are downright insane.

And now one Florida woman confessed to a bizarre addiction that left everyone shaking their heads.

Addicted to what?

Many Americans struggle with addiction.

Whether it is alcohol, food, shopping or even looking at things online they should not, addiction is a dangerous beast that ruins lives.

But one Florida woman had a strange addiction that is not common.

She worked for a nonprofit, and executives were stunned to learn she had been stealing from them for nearly 10 years.

But not just stealing a “little bit.”

Oh no.

This woman wrote 137 fraudulent checks to herself, and when she turned herself in, she admitted she was “addicted” to stealing payroll funds, the Miami Herald reported.

Wow!

Talk about a strange (and illegal) addiction.

A sad day for all

As it turns out, the Florida woman admitted to wire fraud when an upcoming audit was coming.

Let’s face it, she had no other choice.

She figured it was best to turn herself in, to try and regain some control.

But officials were still left scratching their heads.

Why did she do it?

How could she steal from an organization designed to help people?

Addiction is a true beast.

It knows no limitations.

And since she got away with it for so long she probably thought she could keep doing it.

Besides spending time behind bars, the woman was ordered to pay a whopping $766,553.54 in restitution to the place she stole from as well as give back the $616,793.45 she stole, the Miami Herald reported.

Not worth it, was it?

The money is gone

While the woman pled guilty to eight counts of wire fraud, she admitted she did not have the money.

Where did it go?

No one will ever know.

But this woman learned the hard way that stealing money from others to fund who knows what is not sustainable in the end.

Criminals always think they are smarter than the system.

And while they may get away with their crime for a little bit, they almost always get caught.

Those who trusted this woman now feel betrayed, and her life is ruined.

Let’s hope she reflects on what she did as she spends her time behind bars, and hopefully, she can talk to someone who can help her get to the root of her “addiction.”

One thing is for sure, she will have a lot of time to think about what she did, and a lifetime spent paying back all she stole, and then some.
