Criminals are not known for being the brightest bulbs.
One woman found out the hard way that crime does not pay.
And a Florida woman got the shock of her life when this Dairy Queen robbery went wrong.
Florida woman gets $1.50 after robbing a Dairy Queen
Robbers dream of making the big score that sets them up for life.
Heist movies like Ocean’s Eleven, The Great Train Robbery, and Heat all feature criminals who hope to pull off a big robbery that lands them a fortune.
Reality is nothing like a Hollywood movie for the common crook.
A Florida woman is looking at jail time after she robbed a Dairy Queen at gunpoint.
That caper only landed her $1.50.
Allison Fetting, 44, was already being held in jail on other armed robbery and drug possession charges, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.
Now she is facing a charge of felony theft after her robbery of a Dairy Queen in Coconut Creek, Florida, in February 2024 turned out to be a bust.
“The suspect, later identified as Allison Fetting, age 44, of Palm Beach County, walked into the Dairy Queen in Winston Park Plaza, showed an employee a gun, and demanded money,” the Coconut Creek Police Department wrote on social media.
Fetting brandished a black handgun at the Dairy Queen employees.
She could not get the cashier to give her the register, so she decided to make off with what she could.
Fetting grabbed the employee tip jar and high-tailed it out of there.
The tip jar had $1.50 in it.
She could be spending more than a decade in jail after stealing less money than it would take to buy a double cheeseburger at McDonald’s.
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the robbery.
Florida Dairy Queen robbery has a long history of crime
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrested Fetting a day after her Dairy Queen heist.
Fetting will be headed to trial in Broward County, Florida, for the charge.
She was transferred to the Broward County Jail from the Palm Beach County Main Detention Center, where she was being held for possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, two charges of robbery with a firearm, and one charge of robbery with a weapon.
Police said that she had a history of robberies similar to the Dairy Queen one in Coconut Creek.
Fetting was also arrested in December 2021 in Florida on drug possession charges.
Her criminal career began in 2003 when she served three years of a four-year sentence for battery on a law enforcement officer or a first responder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and grand theft from an arrest in Osceola County, Florida, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.
Fetting did not learn from spending time in prison and continued with her life of crime.
Her Dairy Queen heist could give her more time to think about getting back on the straight and narrow path if she is convicted.
She potentially threw away years of her life for robbing a fast food restaurant and making off with $1.50.
