Spring break season has kicked off in Florida.
Crazy antics by party animals have ensued.
And a wild video caught spring break chaos that had Floridians raising hell.
A boxing match breaks out with cryptocurrency betting in Florida
Florida is one of the spring break hotspots that attracts tens of thousands of students looking to have an enjoyable time.
That also brings the drunken antics of college students who try to push things to the limits.
A Fort Lauderdale, Florida beach filled with rowdy spring breakers became the scene of an impromptu boxing match.
Two men began duking it out as a crowd of about 100 people surrounded them and cheered on the brawl.
Fort Lauderdale resident Joshua Pettus was going for a walk when he noticed the fight when people began talking about placing bets on it.
“I started hearing somebody taking bets and they were doing it with crypto,” Pettus told NBC Miami.
Pettus followed the guys taking bets toward the action and pulled out his phone to record.
“Boxing gloves came out, the ring got bigger, and I knew the fight was going to start,” Pettus recalled.
The two shirtless men traded blows to the delight of the crowd.
“Why aren’t they playing football? Something that is not going to get people injured,” Pettus stated.
The police arrived to break up the fight and disperse the crowd.
“Fort Lauderdale Police witnessed and broke up two incidents on the beach and the crowd complied both times without further issues,” a city spokesman said in a statement.
The city claimed that there was no betting on the fight.
“There have been no reported confirmed cases of betting. This type of behavior will not be tolerated,” the statement added.
Pettus could only shake his head in disbelief at what he saw on the beach.
“It was very unsafe,” Pettus said. “It’s not welcomed here because other people are on the beach and that could have got really bad.”
Some Florida cities crack down on spring break
Fort Lauderdale is one of the most popular spring break destinations in Florida.
Some cities in the state like Miami Beach have gone out of their way to make it known spring breakers are not welcome.
Miami Beach began cracking down on spring break with extra police, curfews, and restricted access to the beaches because of the crime it brought.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis dispatched state troopers to the city to help maintain order.
Fort Lauderdale has committed to a full-scale crackdown on spring break as locals are not happy with the crowd it attracts.
The city banned coolers, tables, alcohol, and loud music on the beaches until the middle of April when spring break season ends.
“We want your business. We want you to come and have fun and enjoy our beautiful place down here in sunny south Florida,” Pettus explained. “But do it responsibly — without the violence.”
Florida cities must walk a fine line between encouraging tourism and preventing the party from getting out of control.
