Now, Casey DeSantis is ready for the worst after these Floridians went through hell.
Casey DeSantis’ program expanded to help with hurricane recovery
Hurricane Debby slammed into the Big Bend region of Florida’s Gulf Coast with winds up to 80 miles per hour and torrential rain.
The Category 1 hurricane was later downgraded to a tropical storm.
Communities on Florida’s Gulf Coast suffered from flooding because of the heavy rain.
Debby did more than $115 million worth of damage to the Sunshine State.
The recovery from the destructive storm is underway and residents trying to put their lives back together will have another avenue for help.
Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis announced that her Hope Florida was expanding to tackle disaster relief.
The new Activate Hope will become a part of the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
She helped launch the Hope Florida program in 2021 to use private resources to get help to needy Floridians.
Activate Hope will connect Floridians recovering from a natural disaster with help on things like food, household items, home repairs, and other resources from charities, businesses, and churches to help them get back on their feet.
A new way to help without the government
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his wife traveled to Sarasota, Florida which dealt with unprecedented flooding from Debby.
Casey DeSantis said that Activate Hope would be another resource to help Floridians rebuild their lives in the aftermath of nature’s fury.
“This new Hope Florida expansion will ensure that in the future, Floridians impacted by storms or other emergency situations can readily connect with Hope Navigators and receive the help, services, and supplies they need,” Casey said. “On the flip side, Hope Florida can rally communities and empower them to help their fellow Floridians in need, especially during a disaster.”
Ron DeSantis said that the new program will strengthen Florida’s robust response to hurricanes.
“The state of Florida leads the nation in storm preparation and disaster response,” Ron said. “The launch of Activate Hope through Hope Florida and the Florida Division of Emergency Management will enable us to strengthen our recovery efforts and rebuild stronger communities by utilizing the existing Hope Florida network to help those impacted by disasters find the help they need.”
Hope Navigators help connect Floridians with the resources available from the Florida Hope and the Activate Hope programs.
Since 2022, 30,000 Floridians have used Hope Florida to reduce or eliminate their use of government assistance.
The program it is estimated, will save Florida nearly one billion dollars over the next decade.
“We’re not just offering a handout — we’re empowering individuals to embrace their full God-given potential,” Hope Florida’s mission statement reads.
Florida is using an innovative new way to save taxpayer money and more efficiently help people by using the power of the private sector.
