Disney’s CEO hoped that things were going to be looking up for him in 2025.
But he got a rude wake-up call about where things are headed.
And Disney CEO’s week went from bad to worse after he got this awful news.
Warning signs flashing red for Disney’s new Captain America movie
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the most successful franchise in movie history with 34 films that have grossed over $31 billion.
Marvel Studios has been one of the most reliable generators of hits in Hollywood since the MCU began with Iron Man in 2008.
It seemed like the studio could do wrong.
But, like the rest of Disney, Marvel lost its magic at the box office when its movies went woke.
The franchise hit rock bottom in 2023 when The Marvels became the MCU’s first box office bomb.
It was a critical and commercial failure for Disney.
The Marvels was headlined by a team of female superheroes and the studio went out of its way to emphasize it in promoting the movie.
Marvel only released one movie in 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine, after releasing three or four films per year.
The comic book studio has three movies scheduled for release in 2025 beginning with Captain America: Brave New World which opens on Valentine’s Day.
Captain America is one of the most popular characters in the MCU and Disney was hoping the film could jumpstart a Marvel resurgence.
But the warning signs are flashing red for the film.
The early ticket sales for Captain America: Brave New World have been disappointing so far.
Usually, Marvel fans are racing to buy tickets for the opening weekend of a movie.
“With tickets now on sale, the film is not doing as well as other Marvel movies. In comparison to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Captain America has a much lower number for ticket pre-sales,” MXDWN’s Kinsey Townsend reported. “The film is also being compared to Marvel’s Eternals, which had a $71 million opening weekend domestically. In less than a month Captain America will be released and the box office numbers will be known.”
New Captain America movie was plagued with problems from the beginning
Nate Moore, the producer of the new Captain America movie, is leaving Marvel Studios after this film.
He was also the producer of The Eternals, which was one of the least successful movies financially and critically in the MCU.
Captain America: Brave New World had six writers work on the film and has undergone numerous reshoots.
The movie’s budget has ballooned to over $350 million as the producers work to avoid another box office bomb.
A massive budget could put the movie in a hole that it may never climb out of.

Ticket sales a little over a month out at a random theater in Buffalo, New York showed most of the seats were unsold for the film’s opening weekend.
Marvel decided to preach identity politics instead of delivering an entertaining story.
Disney may have managed to run the most successful movie franchise in history into the ground after going woke.
