ICE is the tip of the spear for Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
He is taking off the handcuffs so they can get the job done.
And Donald Trump handed ICE one weapon to stop a bad problem dead in its tracks.
The Laken Riley Act helps ICE target illegal alien gangs
Georgia nursing student Laken Riley was brutally murdered last year by Jose Antonio Ibarra, an illegal alien from Venezuela who is a member of the Tren de Aragua gang.
Ibarra had been arrested for shoplifting in Athens, Georgia but was released back into the community.
The first bill that President Donald Trump signed into law during his second term was the Laken Riley Act in January.
It requires that illegal aliens who are arrested on theft-related charges, assaulting law enforcement, or crimes that could cause harm like drunk driving be detained.
The Laken Riley Act was used to arrest 14 illegal aliens in Florida including suspected members of Tren de Aragua.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducted a three-day operation in Miami that resulted in illegal aliens suspected of being gang members and charged with crimes being apprehended.
A video posted on X showed HSI Miami agents and federal law enforcement making the arrests.
“HSI Miami concluded a 3-day operation with partners which led to 14 arrests. The operation was targeting criminal aliens in accordance with the Laken Riley Act. The arrests included sexual assaults on a minor, suspected members of Tren de Aragua,” HIS Miami wrote on X.

“As part of its routine operations, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests aliens who commit crimes and other individuals who have violated our nation’s immigration laws,” an ICE spokesman said. “All aliens in violation of U.S. immigration law may be subject to arrest, detention and, if found removable by final order, removal from the United States, regardless of nationality.”
ICE can arrest more illegal aliens who are a threat to public safety
The Laken Riley Act gave ICE and HSI the power to detain more illegal aliens who are free and are considered dangerous.
Representative Mike Collins (R-GA), whose district includes Athens where Riley was murdered, was the primary sponsor of the bill.
“After the Laken Riley Act failed in the 118th Congress, I made a promise to the family of Laken Riley that I would fight just like she did to make sure that we got the Laken Riley Act passed into law so her name could live on in the lives she saves,” Collins told Fox News.
Collins said that he was thrilled the bill was the first one that Trump signed during his second term.
“Tren de Aragua gang members have no place in our country, and I’m glad I could play my part in sending them back to where they came,” Collins stated. “Criminals need to know: the days of raping and pillaging our country with no consequences are over — Laken Riley made sure of that.”
Illegal alien gangs frequently take part in organized retail theft because they know they will get a slap on the wrist if they are caught in many jurisdictions.
Donald Trump expanded the power of ICE and HSI to crack down on violent gangs like Tren de Aragua.
