Donald Trump heard three words on CNN that he never expected in his life

Mar 25, 2025

Donald Trump and CNN have been locked in a bitter feud for a decade.

The network did something that shocked its tiny audience.

And Donald Trump heard three words on CNN that he never expected in his life.

Anti-Trump CNN host uses Gulf of America during coverage

President Donald Trump issued an executive order on his first day in office that changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

That left Democrats and their media allies groaning.

Fake outrage poured in after Trump gave the Gulf a patriotic name change.

The Associated Press refused to use the new name and would not update their influential style guide used by journalists with Gulf of America.

It appeared that most legacy media journalists were going to resist the name change.

The U.S. Board on Geographic Names updated the name on government documents and maps.

Google and Apple updated their maps with the Gulf of America, the two most popular maps and navigation apps in the country.

That is why it was shocking to hear notorious anti-Trump CNN host Jake Tapper utter it during coverage of the astronauts stranded on the International Space Station returning to Earth.

CNN provided minute-by-minute coverage of astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams’ journey home after they were left stranded in space by former President Joe Biden.

“The 17-hour trip home began around 1 a.m. [ET] this morning. Within the hour, they’re expected to splash down near Tallahassee in an area that the US government now calls the Gulf of America, known everywhere else as the Gulf of Mexico,” Tapper said.

Tapper could not help but mention the old name but it was stunning he said Gulf of America.

“We’re closely tracking every step of this journey and we’ll bring you the re-entry and the splashdown live,” Tapper noted.

Former NASA astronaut Scott Altman provided technical expertise during CNN’s coverage.

Altman pointed out that force would carry the capsule through the atmosphere back toward Earth.

“And it’s going into the Gulf of America, what they call around the world the Gulf of Mexico, do they have an idea of where it’s going to land in the gulf?” Tapper asked.

CNN’s coverage of Trump could be evolving

CNN has had a famously hostile relationship with Trump since he came down the golden escalator in 2015.

Tapper repeating Gulf of America could be a sign the poorly rated network’s coverage of Trump is shifting ever so slightly.

CNN head Mark Thompson told more than 100 employees at the network that they needed to avoid “pre-judging” Trump during a meeting before the inauguration and cautioned “against expressing any outrage of their own.”

Jim Acosta, a prominent Trump foe from his first term, had his show moved till midnight which led to his departure from the network.

The Gulf of America is going to be a long-term battle between Trump and the media.

CNN using the name is a sign the tide is starting to shift in his direction.
