Family has always been an important part of Donald Trump’s life and political campaigns.
They get to see a side of him that most people never will.
And Donald Trump’s granddaughter revealed one secret about him no one expected.
Kai Trump has voicemails from her grandpa to inspire her
Kai Trump, 17, was one of the breakout stars of the Trump family this year.
She is the daughter of Donald Trump, Jr. and the granddaughter of President-elect Donald Trump.
Kai spoke at the Republican National Convention in July about her relationship with her grandfather.
One of the things that she is bonded with her grandfather over is their mutual love of golf.
Kai is committed to playing golf for the University of Miami after she graduates high school.
She revealed that she listens to the voicemails that her grandfather left encouraging her while she plays golf on her YouTube channel.
Donald Trump and Kai both count the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey as one of their favorite courses.
During a round on the front nine holes of the golf course, she said that she listened to many of the voicemails that her grandpa left her again.
“So yesterday I was going through my voicemails, I saw a few voicemails from my grandpa because if I call him he always picks up but if he doesn’t — if he’s in an interview or whatever — he’ll call me back and it’s always at 12 o’clock at night and obviously I’m sleeping at 12,” Kai explained. “I was looking back at the voicemails that I got from him and so it’s like, ‘Hi Kai, how’s your golf game,’ or ‘It’s your favorite President, how’s your golf game,’ or ‘How are you doing,’ or ‘How’s school,’ or ‘what’s up sweetie.’”
“It’s so nice, I went through all of them yesterday and it just warmed my heart. I don’t know, I felt bad I never picked up on his calls. But it’s OK. I always call him back, but in the morning,” Kai added.
Donald Trump and Kai Trump are competitive about golf
Kai finished four under par on the front nine at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster and called to brag to her grandfather.
“Anyway, honey, so are you out there right now in Bedminster?” Trump said on the phone.
She pointed out that she finished under par for the day.
“Yeah, that’s pretty good. That’s good,” Trump replied.
Trump asked how he matched up with LIV Golf League star Bryson DeChambeau.
“I don’t know, I think yours is a little faster, honestly. I think you hit it way further than him,” Kai said.
“That’s right, honey,” Trump replied with a laugh.
Trump and DeChambeau played a round of golf for the LIV star’s YouTube channel in a video titled “Can I Break 50 With President Donald Trump?”.
DeChambeau was at Trump’s victory celebration on election night in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“Man, his iron play was great,” DeChambeau said about Trump’s golf game. “I can’t tell you the number of times he stuffed it on the green within 30 feet in regulation. His driver swing is the most repeatable thing I have ever seen.”
