Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home could be shut down for this unthinkable reason

Aug 20, 2024

Donald Trump has made his Mar-a-Lago club his primary residence since 2019.

That could be about to change.

And Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home could be shut down for this unthinkable reason.

Local politicians threaten to close Mar-a-Lago

Former President Donald Trump purchased the 17-acre Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida in 1985.

He converted it into a members-only club before turning it into his primary home in 2019 after he relocated from New York City.

The near assassination of Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania has required his security to be tightened in response.

But that is causing issues with the locals in Palm Beach.

The Secret Service shut down South Ocean Boulevard, the road Mar-a-Lago is on, after the assassination attempt against Trump on July 13.

South Ocean Boulevard will be closed at least through Election Day on November 5.

The social season at Mar-a-Lago is going to pick up in the fall for members of the club.

Palm Beach city government is complaining about the effects on traffic from the road closure outside Trump’s home.

Some local politicians are calling for Mar-a-Lago to be shut down because of the road closure.

Palm Beach Mayor wants a shutdown

Palm Beach Mayor Danielle Moore warned that South Ocean Boulevard being closed meant that Mar-a-Lago should also be closed with attendance at the club about to pick up.

“In my mind, if the road is closed, the Mar-a-Lago Club is closed,” Moore ranted. “There’s no way in God’s green earth that they can bring 350 people into that club. It’s completely illogical that you’ve got a road closed and then you’re going to let 350 strangers into your club.”

The mayor and city council claimed that politics played no role in their desire to find a solution to the road’s closure.

“And I think that we would have the opportunity at that point, I’m not gonna go there yet, but those two things are opposite of what they’re attempting to do, which I absolutely agree with, we don’t want anything to happen, however, you can’t have it both ways boys and girls, either the club’s open or not,” Moore added.

The Palm Beach City Council sent a letter to the Secret Service asking for the agency to “provide the legal authority authorizing it to implement the road closure for the specified duration and even when protectee(s) are not in residence in the Town.”

Palm Beach City Attorney Joanne O’Connor said that the closure of Southern Ocean Boulevard split the city into two pieces.

Council Member Ted Cooney lamented that traffic was already a major problem for the city.

“I’m terrified as to what life looks like in town with this road closure,” Cooney said.

Trump’s other properties in New York City and Bedminster, New Jersey have also had their security increased after the assassination attempt.

Palm Beach will have to find a way to make it work with the former President residing in the city.
