Doug Emhoff created one sick scandal with a Florida high school marching band

Nov 1, 2024

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff cannot get himself out of trouble.

He created another sticky situation with high school students during a campaign trip.

And Doug Emhoff created one sick scandal with a Florida high school marching band.

Controversy erupts after a high school marching band used at a partisan political rally

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff has been crisscrossing the country to hold campaign events for his wife, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Emhoff has dealt with scandals after it was revealed he cheated on his first wife with his nanny and an ex-girlfriend who accused him of hitting her.

Now, he has got another controversy on his hands involving high school students after a trip to Florida.

Emhoff held a get-out-the-early-vote rally in Hallandale Beach, Florida, where he launched unhinged attacks at former President Donald Trump.

The Second Gentleman falsely claimed that Trump wanted to be a dictator, was unfit to hold office, and posed a threat to democracy.

A small crowd attended the event held at a community center along with a few of the dwindling number of Democrat elected officials in Florida.

The Boyd H. Anderson High School marching band provided music at the event and earned praise from Emhoff.

He told the crowd he wished he could take the band with him on the road to play music as he traveled the country.

The rally took place during a school day.

And the school’s principal and some parents were in the dark that the high school band was being used to provide music for a partisan political rally during the school day.

High school breaks the law to have marching band perform at Emhoff political rally

Boyd Anderson High School’s principal played dumb when confronted about the marching band’s participation in the Emhoff rally.

A spokesman for Broward County Schools claimed that the Boyd Anderson principal was not aware the marching band played at political rally to promote Kamala.

The school district’s communications officer John Sullivan said that student and employee participation in political rallies is prohibited during school time.

“The principal was not aware of the event and did not approve student and/or staff participation,” Sullivan said. “The uniforms in question were retired and no longer used at the school; however, appropriate administrative actions will be taken.”

Broward County School Board member Daniel Foganholi told Florida’s Voice that the Boyd Anderson marching band participating in the Emhoff rally ran afoul of state law and district policy.

“Using a high school band for a political rally is a clear violation of both the law and School Board policy, yet we continue to see instances like this across our state and country,” Foganholi said.

He added that it was “troubling” to see the rules flouted and that students should be focused on learning.

Broward County School Board member Brenda Fam said situations like this are why so many parents support school choice.

Fam called it “yet another example of why many families select to home school their children and why there is a long waiting list for students to attend charter, parochial, and private schools.”

Broward County school officials are willing to have students miss class time to participate in partisan political activity.
