FEMA’s problems are growing after botched hurricane response 

Hurricane Helene was the deadliest storm to strike the country since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. 

Storm victims thought they could count on the federal government to be there in their time of need. 

But the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) dragged its feet about getting help into flood-ravaged Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee in the Appalachian Mountains. 

It took the arduous work of regular Americans stepping up to provide relief and do rescue missions to prevent a complete catastrophe in the region.

Whistleblowers inside FEMA say the situation inside the agency is worse than anyone could imagine. 

Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) wrote a blistering letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about the problems inside FEMA responding to Hurricane Helene. 

“My office has been in contact with whistleblowers in numerous emergency-management functions at the federal, state, and local levels, and they all point to the same critical mismanagement issues,” Gaetz wrote. “FEMA has wasted taxpayer funds, misappropriated funds, and left other federal, state, and local responders without deployment orders on the ground.”

FEMA prevented help from getting to hurricane victims 

Gaetz revealed that the whistleblowers told him that the military and FEMA employees could not help hurricane victims because they did not have the necessary orders from the bureaucrats at the top of the agency. 

“As reported and further confirmed by my office, hundreds, if not thousands of service members were deployed by the Department of Defense to North Carolina and have sat idle, waiting for FEMA,” Gaetz explained. “We have confirmed FEMA employees deployed, on the clock, awaiting orders in hotels.” 

“FEMA pre-disaster aid was withheld, exacerbating the emergency. It is also public that NGOs have purchased airline tickets for migrants through the use of FEMA funds,” Gaetz added. 

The Biden-Harris administration used FEMA to pay for the travel of illegal aliens. 

Mayorkas recently admitted that FEMA is running out of money and will need more for its disaster relief mission. 

“This news comes after FEMA has spent hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on migrants due to Border Czar Kamala Harris’ open border instead of prioritizing funding for Americans impacted by disasters,” Gaetz stated. 

Gaetz wanted to know how much of FEMA’s budget was going toward illegal aliens versus Americans. 

“In FY 2024, what portion of funds in the Disaster Relief Fund have been spent on non-disaster-relief programs, such as providing services to illegal aliens or providing routine training to FEMA employees authorized out of general appropriations?” Gaetz asked. 

FEMA has been hijacked by the Biden-Harris administration to facilitate the influx of illegal aliens in the country. 

Tens of thousands of Americans had lost their homes, businesses, or tragically loved ones because of the hurricane. 

But the Biden-Harris administration is putting them at the back of the line behind illegal aliens.
