Florida golfers are on edge after two women survive a very close call

Dec 30, 2024

Florida’s year round warm weather and idyllic landscapes have made it a hub for world-class golf courses.

However, every golf course has its obstacles, which can derail even the best golfers day on the green.

And Florida golfers are on edge after two women survive a very close call.

This harrowing experience has senior citizens in the Tampa area on red alert

Every year, millions of people from across the world flock to Florida to enjoy the year round warm weather.

Florida’s gorgeous climate has also attracted millions of people to retire in this southeast state, with massive communities springing up all over Florida.

However, two women learned the hard way that every golf course has its obstacles and that you should always keep your head on a swivel.

While walking on The Quarry Course near Hole 17 at Black Diamond Ranch north of Tampa, Florida, two women fell down a 50-foot embankment into a closed down quarry on Christmas evening.

These two women were unable to climb out of the quarry or alert anybody to their whereabouts.

As a result, the women had to hunker down and spend the night in the quarry, where rescuers found them and brought them to safety Thursday morning.

Citrus County Fire Rescue squad issued a statement on the matter, posting on their Facebook page, “This morning, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a challenging rescue after two women fell approximately 50 feet into a quarry on The Quarry Course near Hole 17 at Black Diamond Ranch,”

“Despite adverse weather preventing air support, our dedicated crews, with the assistance of Black Diamond Ranch maintenance personnel, executed a successful low-angle rescue. Both patients were stabilized and transported to a local trauma hospital,” the post added.

The golf course involved, Black Diamond Ranch, provided some details about the terrain of this course, noting that participants should exercise caution.

“The Quarry is unlike any other golf course in Florida, thanks to the steep drop-offs and rolling hills of the beautiful Citrus County. Navigate the edge of a limestone quarry dug 80 feet into the ground and wind through lush tropical vegetation and towering oaks,” the course stated.

The post added, “Holes 13 through 17 play across and around the rims of two canyons up to 80 feet deep, and may well be the most spectacular holes of golf this side of Pebble Beach.”

The two women involved remain unidentified, and it appears that they will physically recover from this terrifying experience.

First responders saved the day after two women nearly fell to their death

Even in a relatively flat state like Florida, people should always be aware of their surroundings.

Not only do some Florida golf courses contain unique obstacles such as at the Black Diamond Ranch, but they also have natural obstacles like massive alligators.

Giant alligators often go viral online for cruising around Florida golf courses, which offer wide-open spaces for them to bask.

These natural and manmade obstacles can make even the most routine outing a dangerous endeavor.
