Florida is getting hit hard during hurricane season this year.
The state has one more problem to deal with because of the left-wing elites.
And Florida’s Fire Marshal torched John Kerry for creating this hellish nightmare.
Florida deals with electric vehicle fires in the aftermath of hurricane
Hurricane Helene slammed in Florida’s Big Bend region bringing torrential rain and wind up to 140 miles mile hour.
The Category 4 hurricane brought record storm surge to communities up and down the state’s Gulf Coast.
Seawater and lithium-ion batteries found in electric vehicles, golf carts, and electric scooters are a recipe for fires even days after the storm surge has receded.
Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, who doubles as the state’s Fire Mashal, issued a warning about seawater seeping into lithium-ion batteries.
“One of the threats that we’re very concerned with is lithium-ion battery technologies,” Patronis said.
Salt water causes a chemical reaction in batteries that can cause them to short-circuit.
The salt in seawater makes it a good conductor of electricity.
“We’ve had 16 fires already in the Pinellas, Tampa Bay area from EV related flood effects where the device has caught fire, and we had some circumstances where the houses actually burned down,” Patronis explained. “The EVs, about six of them so far, have set houses on fire.”
Electric vehicle owners were urged to move at least 50 feet away from any building for fire safety reasons.
“But what you don’t want to risk is that lithium-ion battery, the product in your garage on charge, and now the powers turned back on, it creates what’s called a thermal runaway,” Patronis said. “That means it will burn until it doesn’t have any fuel left. You can’t put it out with water. Ultimately, that could lead to harming you, your household or a first responder.”
Electric vehicles are ticking time bombs after a storm
Patronis ripped the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) movement that prioritizes green options like electric vehicles.
“Every time a house burns and a firefighter puts his or her life at risk for a compromised [electric vehicle or plug-in electric vehicle] that was subsidized by taxpayers, John Kerry, Al Gore, and their ESG cronies should be forced to go out there and have a look-see,” Patronis wrote on X.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis told electric vehicle owners to move them out of the way of Hurricane Helene before the storm hit.
He urged automakers to warn customers to relocate their electric vehicles before a storm hits.
“Unfortunately, prior to Hurricane Helene making landfall, we did not see a lot of proactive measures by manufacturers in notifying customers in storm surge areas to relocate their vehicles,” DeSantis said.
Many owners have no idea of the danger that comes with seawater getting into the lithium-ion battery.
“It’s not too late for these manufacturers to send out notifications and fire safety information directly to their consumers and I’m encouraging these companies to provide solutions immediately to help protect Floridians,” DeSantis.
These lithium-ion batteries are a nightmare for firefighters to put out because the case that holds the battery is near the bottom of the vehicle where a traditional engine would be.
“These compromised vehicles and devices are ticking time bombs,” DeSantis stated.
The electric vehicle revolution is creating another headache for communities to deal with in the name of going green.
