Former NFL coach Tony Dungy fought back tears during one scary message for voters

Nov 1, 2024

Tony Dungy is best known for being a Super Bowl-winning coach in the NFL.

But his biggest impact has not been on the playing field.

And former NFL coach Tony Dungy fought back tears during one scary message for voters.

Tony Dungy gives an emotional message about Florida’s abortion-on-demand ballot measure

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ focus in the 2024 Election has been on defeating a constitutional amendment for abortion and a ballot measure to create a recreational marijuana monopoly.

Amendment 4 is a deceptively worded measure that would enshrine abortion-on-demand until the moment of birth into the Florida Constitution.

Voters in Florida will decide the fate of the state’s pro-life laws on their ballots.

The heartbeat law that DeSantis signed last year banned most abortions after six weeks and the state’s law requiring parental consent for a minor to get an abortion would be wiped out if the amendment passes.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Tony Dungy has been encouraging Florida voters to oppose Amendment 4.

The fight against it is personal for him as the father of eight adopted kids and as an evangelical Christian.

DeSantis and Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis have been crisscrossing the state to oppose Amendment 4.

Dungy joined the Florida Governor for a press conference at Clearwater Central Catholic High School to rally opposition to it.

The former NFL coach gave an emotional speech where he talked about why he opposed Amendment 4.

He pointed to his faith and said, “These babies in the womb are lives.”

“And I know that everybody doesn’t believe that, but I happen to believe it,” Dungy said. “My Bible tells me that they are. And I know everybody doesn’t believe that but, for me, that’s what’s important.”

Tony Dungy sees the importance of choosing life every day

Dungy held back tears when he talked about the eight adopted children in his family.

“My wife Lauren and I have eight adopted children in our home right now. And when I go home every day, and I look at those kids, I don’t see eight choices, I’m sorry,” an emotional Dungy said. “Those are eight lives.”

The pro-abortion forces pushing Amendment 4 have tried to muddle the issue and make the debate about protecting women’s health.

Dungy told the crowd he gets “upset” when he hears that abortion-on-demand needs to be the law “because women are in danger.”

“No, they’re not in danger when they’re pregnant,” Dungy stated. “We have healthcare. We have some of the best healthcare in the world here, and it’s available, and it’s not going to be withheld if this amendment doesn’t pass.”

“And yes, we need to protect our women. Yes, we need to protect our mothers,” Dungy continued. “But we need to protect those children as well.”

Tony Dungy could be playing golf every day now that he is retired from the NFL.

But he is spending his time trying to fight back against an effort to bring California-style abortion laws to Florida.
