Lara Trump became one of the rising stars in the Republican Party after the election.
She is ready for the next step in her political career.
And Lara Trump made one major decision about her future that left Ron DeSantis stunned.
Lara Trump rumored to be top contender for Marco Rubio’s Senate seat
President-elect Donald Trump nominating U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) to be his Secretary of State created an opening for a new Senator in Florida.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would appoint Rubio’s replacement who will serve until a special election for the remainder of the term in the 2026 Midterm Elections.
The Sunshine State has a deep bench of Republicans who DeSantis could choose from to fill the seat.
Speculation grew that Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of Donald Trump, could be in the running for the appointment.
U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), and others lobbied for DeSantis to appoint her to the seat.
Lara Trump told the Associated Press that she was open to the possibility of becoming a U.S. Senator.
“It is something I would seriously consider,” Trump said. “If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like. And I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is something that’s real for me. But yeah, I would 100% consider it.”
She took over as the co-chair of the Republican National Convention (RNC) earlier this year and helped Trump and Republicans have a successful election cycle.
Lara Trump stepped down from her position as co-chair which fueled speculation that she could be a serious contender to replace Rubio.
Lara Trump makes a decision about seeking Florida’s Senate seat
The former RNC co-chair ended the speculation about becoming Florida’s next U.S. Senator when she pulled her name out of consideration for the position.
“After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate,” Lara Trump wrote on X.
“I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I’m truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida,” Trump continued. “I have read so many of your kind messages and I cannot thank you enough.”
She said that she was excited to make a “big announcement” in January.
“I remain incredibly passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment,” Lara Trump concluded.
DeSantis previously said that he would announce Rubio’s replacement in January and that it would be someone who aligned with Trump’s agenda.
That leaves names like Representative Cory Mills (R-FL), Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez, and DeSantis’ Chief of Staff James Uthmeier as rumored top contenders for the seat.
Ron DeSantis has plenty of good choices available to choose from to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Marco Rubio to the Trump administration.
