Legendary NFL coach Tony Dungy had this surprising warning for Florida voters

Oct 25, 2024

Tony Dungy was one of the most successful coaches in the NFL this century.

He is used to spotting misdirection in an opponent’s game plan.

And legendary NFL coach Tony Dungy had this surprising warning for Florida voters.

Tony Dungy warns Florida voters not to be deceived by abortion measure

Former Super Bowl-winning head coach Tony Dungy is an evangelical Christian and has been active in community involvement dating back to his days in the National Football League (NFL).

He weighed in on the biggest political battle in Florida this year.

Voters in the Sunshine State will vote on Amendment 4 this November which would enshrine abortion on demand into the Florida Constitution if it passes.

Amendment 4 would bring extreme California-style abortion laws to Florida, but it was written in an intentionally vague manner to hide how extreme it is.

Dungy told Florida voters to “carefully read” the amendment and not be fooled about what it does.

“Amendment 4 was strategically written to be vague and deceptive, giving voters little information about its sweeping impact,” Dungy said.

He pointed to the language in the amendment.

“No law shall prohibit, penalize, delay or restrict abortion before viability,” Amendment 4 states.

Dungy pointed out that it leaves it up to interpretation.

“Is it 12 weeks? 24 weeks? 36 weeks? It doesn’t say,” Dungy explained. “Under Amendment 4, viability is not defined in law or determined by doctors, but decided by healthcare providers, which could include employees of abortion clinics who are not doctors.”

Leaving it open to any “healthcare provider” is a loophole wide enough to drive a semi-truck through.

“The bottom line is, if Amendment 4 passes, there would be no time limit allowing for late-term abortions when science says that the baby can feel pain,” Dungy stated.

Pro-abortion forces hope to deceive voters

The amendment leaves the door open for a viable baby to be aborted if any healthcare provider for any reason determines it is necessary.

Florida’s law requiring parental consent to receive an abortion would be overturned if the amendment passes.

Dungy noted that this would be the only time a minor could make a decision involving doctors without the consent of their parents.

“I believe that all mothers deserve health care and protection,” Dungy said. “Florida’s current laws provide exceptions to allow abortions in cases of rape, incest or to protect the health and life of the mother.”

“But I also believe that all babies in the womb are actual lives in God’s eyes, and those babies deserve protection too,” Dungy added.

Pro-abortion forces pushing Amendment 4 are trying to trick voters into thinking women’s lives are in danger because of the current six-week abortion ban in the state.

“We can protect the health of mothers and protect the lives of babies with a better solution that doesn’t have so many loopholes and uncertainties,” Dungy said. “Never before have we been asked to vote on something that is literally a matter of life and death, but that is what Amendment 4 comes down to. Please join me in defending life by voting no on Amendment 4.”

Constitutional Amendments in Florida need 60% of the vote to pass and polling shows that the amendment is near that threshold.
