Law enforcement officials in Florida are preparing for the annual flood of college students to the state for spring break.
But criminals keep the law busy all year in Florida.
And police just arrested an exotic dancer in Florida for one reason that no officer ever expected.
Millions of college students and young adults will travel to Florida over the next several weeks for spring break.
Florida is one of the top destinations in the world for spring break.
“If there’s one place that defines spring break, it’s Florida,” AAA reported. “Florida’s beaches, family-friendly attractions, and cruise ports make Florida a logical choice for in-state and out-of-state travelers seeking some fun in the sun.”
But young adults and college students drinking alcohol all day on the beach and in the clubs at night bring unwanted behavior like fights, street brawls, and accidents.
On Tuesday, DeSantis held a press conference announcing a string of law enforcement safety measures ahead of the upcoming spring break crowd.
DeSantis made it clear that criminal activity would not be tolerated in Florida.
“What we don’t welcome is criminal activity,” DeSantis said at a press conference announcing a beefed-up law enforcement. “What we don’t welcome is mayhem and people that want to wreak havoc on our communities.”
“Make no mistake about it, if you’re coming here in order to enjoy Florida and to enjoy and have a good time, fine, but if you’re coming for these other reasons, if you’re committing crimes, causing havoc, you are going to pay the price,” he added.
Of course, law enforcement officers in Florida are experienced in dealing with wild people and strange criminal behavior year-round.
It has gotten so bad that “Florida Man” is a popular joke that goes around on social media each time someone is arrested in the Sunshine State for strange criminal activity.
Police officers in Port St. Lucie, Florida recently experienced some of the strangeness the Sunshine State has to offer at an adult dance club.
A stripper was arrested for slapping a man in the face with a massive wad of cash.
“A strip club patron was walloped in the face with a ‘small stack’ of cash by a female worker who explained to arresting officers that, ‘This is a place where money is thrown everywhere,’” The Smoking Gun reported. “Police were summoned late Tuesday night to Body Talk, a topless club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, to investigate an alleged battery on a male customer.”
According to police reports, victim John McKelvey was “talking to several employees of the establishment about his career” and how much money he makes at his job.
He didn’t know he was expected to tip the dancers in the club, as he told police that he “did not see any signs stating it was mandatory to tip” and that the women “were upset he had not provided them any tips.”
“The employees were upset that the victim had not thrown money at them, which was a common practice at the establishment,” the arrest affidavit read.
Dancer Jones said the man “was drunk and being rude” while “following employees from table to table verbally insulting them.”
She told the police she “picked up a small stack of money and threw it towards the victim,” but did so in a “non-aggressive manner.”
“This is a place where money is thrown everywhere,” she said.
But security cameras show she not only hit him with the wad of cash, but she also slapped him across the face with her hand.
She was arrested for battery and released from the county jail after posting a $500 bond.
And now law enforcement are preparing for millions of wild and drunk people in the state over the next few weeks.
