Potato chips come in a wide variety of flavors and styles.
Even though most potato chips come in a bag, Pringles is known for using a cylindrical can.
And police were shocked by what a Florida woman did to this one man with a can of Pringles.
Potato chips are one of the most popular snacks in the world today.
Americans eat about 1.85 billion pounds of potato chips each year.
Potato chips are sold in over 140 countries and generate $1.4 billion in sales each year worldwide.
Chef George Crum accidentally invented potato chips in Saratoga, New York, and the first recipe was published in 1824.
At first, potato chips were sold out of wooden barrels until Laura Scudder created the first modern bag in 1953.
Most companies today place their potato chips in bags, but Pringles is famous for its cylinder-shaped cans.
“The idea of the Pringles canister was first invented by the chemist Fredric Baur in 1966,” Works Design Group reported. “Because potato chips are fragile, Baur felt that simply tossing them in a bag was an inefficient method of storage,” Works Design Group continued. “By putting the potato crisps in a can, Pringles® could offer consumers a compelling brand promise – that their snacks would be completely uniform, with every single crisp exactly alike.”
Using a cylinder shaped can make Pringles one of the most well-known brands in the world.
But sometimes, people use the cans for more than keeping potato chips fresh.
Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office recently responded to a call about a “physical fight” at a 7-Eleven in Orlando.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man with blood pouring from his eye who told them that “a male approached him and made a comment to him about his vehicle.”
Once inside the store, the victim told police that he asked the defendant “if she was with the man” who asked about his vehicle.
But that is when the situation turned violent.
“[The victim] stated that Shanika eventually struck him in the eye with a Pringles chip can and took off running,” the affidavit read. “While speaking with [the victim], I observed that [the victim] had a significant cut on his right eyebrow and below his eye, causing him to bleed,” the affidavit continued. “The cut looked significant and appeared that it would leave a scar and permanent disfigurement.”
Deputies eventually tracked down the culprit and brought her back to the scene of the crime.
“I asked Shanika what happened and she advised me that while inside the 7-Eleven, [the victim] was saying rude things to her and being disrespectful,” the deputy wrote in the report. “Shanika said [the victim] at one point called her a ‘c***,’” the report continued. “Shanika admitted that due to [the victim] being rude to her she hit him.”
Of course, the victim tells a different story.
“As I pulled up to the 7-Eleven, there was a guy sitting outside and as I got out the car he said something under his breath so I ignored him and walked into the 7-Eleven,” the victim told the deputy. “As I was standing in line, there was a young lady in front of me talking to the cashier, and she seemed like she had been drinking,” the police report read. “So she stood to the side, and as I was about to pay for my drink, and I asked the young lady if she knew the guy outside.”
The victim said the woman then “turned around and hit me in my eye and above my eye with a Pringles chip can and split my brow above my eye.”
An employee at the 7-Eleven confirmed the victim’s story.
The woman was arrested and charged with aggravated battery.
