Ron DeSantis handed out more than $43 million in bonuses to one set of people that woke Democrats will hate

Dec 2, 2024

Democrats have been attacking law enforcement since the death of George Floyd in 2020.

Police officers in some cities are hesitant to do their jobs out of fear of being reprimanded by Democrats.

But Ron DeSantis handed out more than $43 million in bonuses to one set of people that woke Democrats will hate.

After George Floyd’s death in 2020, “defund the police” became the Democrat Party’s battle cry.

Democrats in some cities slashed the budgets of entire police departments as part of their war on law enforcement.

Former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti slashed $150 million from the city’s police budget.

But Democrats did not stop with cutting funds and shutting down police departments.

George Soros-backed prosecutors also started refusing to prosecute crimes and instead implemented pro-crime policies like no cash bail.

As a result, crime has skyrocketed in Democrat-controlled cities nationwide over the past several years.

Of course, not all elected officials declared war on law enforcement.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took the opposite approach with law enforcement officers in the Sunshine State.

After Democrats in several states and cities forced police officers to take the COVID vaccine or be fired, Ron DeSantis stepped up to offer a helping hand.

Not only did DeSantis ban vaccine mandates in Florida, but he also offered bonuses and other incentives to police officers who relocated to work in Florida.

DeSantis offered law-enforcement personnel a one-time $5,000 bonus, after taxes, to newly employed officers in Florida.

“We think that’s important because law enforcement has come under attack and we want to show people that it’s a noble calling and it’s a good career,” DeSantis previously said of the bonus initiative.

As 2024 comes to a close, the bonus program is still available in Florida.

In fact, DeSantis recently handed out 300 more bonus checks to law-enforcement officers who relocated to Florida.

This brings the total to 6,400 bonuses totaling more than $43 million.

The latest bonuses were awarded to officers in counties impacted by Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton.

“Florida welcomes law enforcement officers from across the country to a state where they will be recognized and appreciated,” DeSantis said in a prepared statement. “Additionally, Florida celebrates the law enforcement profession and encourages people to join the force,” the statement continued. “Law enforcement officers make enormous personal sacrifices for the communities they serve, and they deserve higher pay and more support.”

Florida Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly praised DeSantis for the positive impact his bonus program is having on the state.

“Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, Florida shows the nation how to support law enforcement,” Kelly said. “This program showcases the state’s commitment to rewarding the heroic work law enforcement officers do,” he continued, before adding that “these brave men and women are on the front lines, allowing safe communities to thrive.”

Florida just took the top spot in WalletHub’s annual ranking of the best cities for retirement across the nation with Orlando.

Four of the top five cities were in the Sunshine State.

DeSantis made law and order a top priority, and crime is low in Florida as a result.
