Woke ideology infected nearly every aspect of American life over the past several years.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis showed Republicans that it was possible to take on and defeat the woke Left.
But Ron DeSantis just revealed one unfortunate truth about George Washington in today’s society.
The tide is starting to turn in the culture war that has been raging in America over the past decade.
For far too long, Republican officials refused to engage in the Left’s culture war out of fear of being canceled or smeared as “racist,” “sexist,” or “anti-gay.”
This allowed the Left to inject their woke ideology into every aspect of society, including the educational system.
Leftist school boards across the country adopted Critical Race Theory (CRT) and other woke curricula designed to indoctrinate children with their Marxist vision of America.
But Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was the first Republican to stand up and fight back against the woke Left.
DeSantis signed the Stop WOKE Act into law, which removed all traces of Critical Race Theory from the curriculum in Florida’s government schools.
DeSantis banned biological males from participating in women’s sports and prohibited brainwashing young children with the woke transgender agenda.
He also ended Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs at universities and colleges in Florida and removed the woke Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) policies from state law.
As part of the culture war, the woke Left went all-out to erase America’s proud history of freedom by tearing down statues of Founding Fathers and other prominent historical figures.
It started with statues of Confederate generals but soon extended to include George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and many other Founding Fathers.
Ron DeSantis prohibited leftists from tearing down statues in Florida.
He signed an executive order in December that established an Advisory Commission for the state’s observance of America’s 250th birthday on July 4, 2026.
On Thursday, Ron DeSantis unveiled a statue of George Washington in the Florida Capitol as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations next year.
“The 6 1⁄2-foot bronze statue is on loan from George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate and will sit in the Capitol for the next year,” the Tallahassee Democrat reported. “It was sculpted by Robert Shure in 1996 and based on a statue by Jean-Antoine Houdon, an 18th and 19th century French sculptor.”
DeSantis praised George Washington for resisting the urge for more power which is part of human nature.
“When commanding generals succeeded in a revolution of that nature, they immediately went to install themselves in power, and Washington could have done that,” DeSantis said. “He could have been the king of the United States of America if he wanted to do it, but instead he showed up, he surrendered his commission, surrendered his sword, and went back to retire to Mount Vernon.”
The Governor noted that leftists in Democrat states and cities are tearing down statues of Founding Fathers.
“While others are tearing statues down, we are putting statues up to honor the heroes of our republic and our great history,” DeSantis said. “Washington exemplified leadership, he exemplified civic virtue, and he had character that not only was indispensable in founding the country but keeping the new republic together in those early formative years.”
But DeSantis revealed one unfortunate truth about George Washington in today’s culture.
“He probably wouldn’t be viable in today’s climate, which very much values entertainment over accomplishment, and yet we’ve never seen anybody like him,” DeSantis said.
