Ron DeSantis tipped his hand about the future with one move that put everyone on notice

Aug 9, 2024

Ron DeSantis is one of the rising stars in the Republican Party.

Now, he is figuring out what comes next after his time as governor is up.

And Ron DeSantis tipped his hand about the future with one move that put everyone on notice.

Ron DeSantis wants to run for President again

The 2024 Election is still up in the air but that is not stopping the speculation about 2028 from beginning.

Former President Donald Trump would be term-limited if he wins this November.

His running mate, U.S. Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH), would most likely be the early leader in the clubhouse for the GOP nomination in 2028 and the heir to Trump’s political movement.

A source close to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis told Politico that he wants to throw his hat in the ring once again.

His Presidential run this cycle did not turn out as he expected after a disappointing second place in the Iowa caucus after he went all out to win the state.

But DeSantis can take the lessons from his first Presidential campaign into a future one.

A future showdown between Ron DeSantis and J.D. Vance

Vance could be the sitting Vice President heading into the 2028 Election but that would not alter DeSantis’ plans.

“JD Vance being vice president does not change Ron DeSantis’ calculus for 2028 one way or the other,” a Republican consultant supporting DeSantis told Politico.

The Florida governor raised eyebrows with how he spent his time at the Republican National Convention (RNC).

He spoke to the Iowa Republican Party, the first state on the GOP Presidential Primary calendar, during a lunch at the RNC.

“We are not going to let you get ahead of us,” DeSantis quipped to the Iowa Republicans. “If you guys are doing good things that we haven’t done, I’m going to follow through and do it.”

DeSantis also spoke to the Republican Party of Florida and Moms for Liberty at the RNC.

“During the Republican National Convention, Restore our Nation (RON) — a political committee rechristened from DeSantis’ former presidential campaign — blasted out text and emails urging supporters to donate to help elect Trump and to watch DeSantis give his main-stage, prime-time speech. DeSantis also touted this record during various appearances on the sidelines in Milwaukee — to widespread applause — signaling he still has major appeal among Trump’s base,” Politico reported.

But the road ahead for DeSantis could be complicated by Vance being seen as the heir to Trump.

Ballard Partners lobbyist Justin Sayfie, a DeSantis supporter, said that Vance got a leg up for the future from Trump.

“In theory, Trump just basically cemented the next two nominations,” Sayfie explained. “The Republicans know who their nominees are going to be through 2036.”

DeSantis famously never backs down from a challenge.

He told Newsmax he was focused on delivering results when he asked about how Vance would shape his future.

“We believe in leading by example, we believe in getting things done,” DeSantis said. “But ultimately you do that by not worrying about elections two, four years plus in advance. You worry about what you can do right now to actually deliver big results.”

There is a long way to go until 2028 and a lot can change in the political world by then.

But conservatives appear to have some great options to lead the party into the future.
