Next to Donald Trump, there may be no man the Left hates more than Ron DeSantis.
Everything America’s Governor has done is met with scorn and vitriol.
And now DeSantis was just gifted the perfect opportunity to meltdown Democrats with just a single move.
Donald Trump replaces Matt Gaetz with Pam Bondi
Donald Trump is quickly building the team that will aid him during his second term in the White House.
However, one of his nominations did not work out.
The President-elect tapped then-Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to be his U.S. Attorney General.
Gaetz, who is currently the subject of a politically motivated witch hunt, resigned from his position in Congress following his nomination.
Democrats and establishment Republicans teamed up to fight against the pick.
Unless Trump used a recess appointment ploy, Gaetz was unlikely to be confirmed.

US Senators lose their minds.
Gaetz withdraws.
US Senators are relieved.
Trump nominates anybody else.

So, the Florida Congressman withdrew his name from consideration, citing that he did not want to be a distraction from the work of the next Trump Administration.
There is heavy speculation that this may have been Trump’s “4D chess” plan all along.
In fact, Trump very quickly had his backup plan ready to go.
Hours after Gaetz’s announcement, the President-elect nominated former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to be his U.S. Attorney General.

Along with serving as then-Governor Rick Scott’s Attorney General in the Sunshine State, Bondi served on Trumps’ 2020 legal team fighting his impeachment and runs the legal arm of the America First Policy Institute.
But where does that leave Matt Gaetz?
Matt Gaetz for U.S. Senate
Another Trump cabinet pick was Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) for Secretary of State.
Assuming Rubio is confirmed, which appears to be a shoo-in, he would have to vacate his U.S. Senate seat, leaving a vacancy.
From there, Governor Ron DeSantis will appoint someone to fill Rubio’s seat until a special election in 2026 determines who will hold the seat for the remainder of the six-year term.
And now that Gaetz finds himself suddenly unemployed, his name is being bandied about as a possibility for the promotion.

Posts like the one above from notorious Twitter user Wall Street Mav are filling social media.
The sentiment appears to be that America’s Governor should appoint the MAGA former Congressman as Rubio’s replacement.
Leftists wanted Gaetz as a U.S. Senator about as much as they wanted him to be the U.S. Attorney General.
And there would be some poetic justice in having Gaetz join as a colleague the Upper Chamber members that refused to confirm him.
Could DeSantis make Senator Trump a thing?
However, Gaetz is not the only MAGA option people are pushing DeSantis to appoint.
Many believe Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) would be an even better choice.

And still, many more want to see DeSantis name Republican National Committee (RNC) co-chaired Lara Trump to the seat.
Lara is the President-elect’s daughter-in-law.
She, along with Michael Whatley and Chris LaCivita are responsible for turning the RNC around and delivering its first winning election cycle since 2016.
It is completely a fair argument whether Lara Trump or Matt Gaetz would cause the heads of woke radicals to spin faster.
Other options to fill Rubio’s seat
But while picking Lara or Gaetz would win DeSantis big points with MAGA voters and aid his potential 2028 White House run, America’s Governor could go in another direction.
DeSantis has assembled a team around him in Florida that has delivered unparalleled results both in elections and in conservative-populist governing.
If Trump does not name Dr. Joseph Ladapo as the nation’s Surgeon General @GovRonDeSantis should strongly consider making him Rubio’s replacement in the Senate.

The Governor of the Sunshine State may be inclined to reward one of his loyal team members by appointing them to the Rubio seat in the U.S. Senate.
DeSantis’ Attorney General, Ashley Moody is one of the top names on that list.
However, she is not alone in impressing during DeSantis’ Florida Administration.
His Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez, chief-of-staff James Uthmeier, and state Surgeon General Joe Ladapo are all excellent options for the Governor to consider.
Meanwhile, Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward has already expressed interest in the seat.
And then there is the option that DeSantis could select his wife, Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis, or even appoint himself to replace Rubio.
