Seniors’ lives could be changed forever after Ron DeSantis started this movement

Mar 20, 2025

Ron DeSantis wants to make life easier and cheaper for Floridians.

He has sparked interest in one game-changing policy.

And seniors’ lives could be changed forever after Ron DeSantis started this movement.

Florida and other states are looking at ending property taxes

Everyone who pays off the mortgage in the United States is still on the hook for paying property taxes.

This squeezes seniors on fixed incomes when the government decides to hike property taxes.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wants people to own their homes free and clear without paying rent to the government.

“You buy a home, pay off a mortgage – and yet you still have to write a check to the government every year just to live on your own property?” DeSantis said. “Is the property yours or are you just renting from the government? I know members of the Legislature are studying the issue in anticipation of formulating a proposal to place on the 2026 ballot to provide constitutional protections for Florida property owners.”

A ballot measure has been proposed that would go before voters next year that would exempt the first $100,000 of a home’s value from property taxes.

DeSantis noted that soaring home values have flooded the government with more tax dollars.

More states are trying to eliminate property taxes.

Pennsylvania State Representative Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon) told Fox News that he’s filing a constitutional amendment to let the state’s voters decide on the matter.

“Property taxes are an issue that is not exactly partisan, because in some areas, it’s more of a big deal than in others,” Diamond said.

He said that property taxes vary by municipality in Pennsylvania but in some cities, it is a “big deal.”

“For me, the ‘big deal’ is that I want people to own their homes and not have to rent from the government, all across Pennsylvania,” Diamond explained.

The right to own property without paying the government a tribute

The late Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Michael Musmanno said in 1966 that to be “master of [one’s] fate” the “greatest joy that can be experienced by mortal man . . . None shines with greater luster and imparts more innate satisfaction and soulful contentment to the wearer than the golden, diamond-studded right to be let alone. Everything else in comparison is dross and sawdust.”

Diamond cites that quote often in his push to eliminate property taxes.

Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano (R-Gettysburg) called property taxes “rent to the government for the land you own.”

He wants to replace them with a tax on remittances sent to foreign countries and on the endowments of wealthy universities in the state.

“It’s easy to see why this antiquated tax is so despised in all corners of the commonwealth. More than 10,000 homes are seized annually in Pennsylvania and auctioned off for failure to pay the tax,” Mastriano said.

Other states around the country are seeking to cap property taxes or begin the process of eliminating them altogether.

Property owners could finally be free to enjoy it without having to pay rent to the government every year for the right to own it.
