Nationally in the United States, 26 million students gather at bus stops each morning to catch a ride to school.
But it is not always a friendly gathering.
And students were shocked by what this Florida mom did to one kid at the local bus stop.
This was supposed to be a normal Wednesday at a local bus stop in Flagler County, Florida, but what went down was everything but normal.
It all started when two teenage girls had a falling out with each other during the summer break.
By the time school started, the tension between the two girls had reached a breaking point.
According to the police report, on the bus ride home from school, the two girls “engaged in a verbal disturbance” and “mutually agreed to fight when the bus dropped them off.”
One of the girl’s mothers was waiting at the bus stop after her daughter alerted her about the fight.
But the mother was not there to diffuse the situation in a peaceful manner.
She was there to do the exact opposite.
When the two girls started fighting, the mother 34-year-old Kathryn Stephanopoulos, joined in and started helping her daughter.
She even put the teenage girl in a choke hold and dragged her to the ground at one point.
During their fight, the mother’s daughter started another fight with a student who tried to break up the ongoing tussle.
After that fight ended, one of the teenagers hit the mother across the face with a full metal cup.
Sheriff Rick Staly pointed out how the mother set a bad example for her daughter and the other teenagers who watched.
“Instead of de-escalating the situation, we have a mother who joined in the fray, setting a bad example for her child and those at the bus stop,” Staly said. “She certainly won’t receive mother of the year with her actions,” he continued. “Parents need to set an example and not be part of the problem.”
“Luckily, no one was seriously injured, but now a mother is facing serious charges for losing control of her temper,” he concluded.
The mother was arrested and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.
She was charged with felony child abuse.
One of the teenagers was arrested for Aggravated Battery.
And law enforcement forwarded misdemeanor charges for the other juvenile to the State Attorney’s Office.
