You never know what you may find in the sand when taking a walk on the beach.
Although most people find seashells and shark’s teeth, people do occasionally stumble across gold coins from a lost treasure.
And this Florida man nearly fainted once he realized what he found on the beach.
Florida’s peninsula status makes it one of the top vacation destinations in the United States.
Overall, Florida has over 650 miles of sandy beaches and more than 1,300 miles of coastline.
The Florida coast is blessed with hundreds of miles of white sand, clear turquoise waters, and a lot of sunshine.
Some of the best beaches in the world are in Florida, including Siesta Key, Anna Maria Island, Delray Beach, Destin Beach, Fort Walton Beach, and Daytona Beach.
With hundreds of miles of sandy beaches, it is not unusual for someone to find old coins or valuable items in the sand.
The gold coins typically come from all the Spanish ships that sank throughout the course of history.
“More than 300 years ago, fleets of Spanish galleons set sail from the waters off the Americas to bring back vast amounts of treasure from the New World, including gold, silver and gemstones,” CBS reported. “On July 31, 1715, a powerful hurricane devastated 11 of those ships, sending the vessels and their precious cargo to the ocean floor.”
Since 2022, Jonah Martinez and his daughter, Kaylee Martinez, have found everything from wedding rings to GoPro’s to sunglasses to cellphones to hand grenades to bullets to World War II stuff to valuable coins.
“When the cold fronts or the hurricanes come up, we usually get an opportunity to go out there and look for stuff that has been lost,” Jonah Martinez said. “Mother Nature does a job and erodes the sand away and if you are in the right place at the right time, you never know what you are going to find.”
Martinez was right.
You never know what you are going to find when walking on the beach in Florida.
But one Florida man recently stumbled across the scariest find in recent memory.
According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, a man recently found a severed human head while raking the beach.
“An investigation was launched Tuesday morning after a person raking the beach on Key Biscayne, a barrier island just east of Miami, reportedly came across a human head,” WFLA reported. “Miami-Dade Police said the person found the head around 8:30 a.m. after it washed ashore near Crandon Boulevard,” WFLA continued. “The beachgoer immediately called authorities following the discovery.”
The identity of the individual is not yet known, and officials have not confirmed whether it was a man or a woman’s head.
Local resident Bahman Amini told CBS News that “you see all kinds of things here, but nothing like this, like we saw this morning – the head of a person.”
“This is my typical route,” Amini said. “Our neighborhood is very safe.”
Another local added that “we have our children here; our children play on these beaches and it’s just beyond belief.”
Most people dream of finding treasure on the beach.
But stumbling across a human head would be a terrifying experience for any sane person.
