Christianity has been under attack in America for years.
But apparently it is not just woke government officials who have a problem with public displays of Christianity.
And this Florida man never expected to be put through hell for holding a sign with the Bible verse John 3:16 on it.
America’s Founding Fathers understood the importance of protecting religious liberty in a free society.
That is why the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guaranteed religious freedom for all Americans regardless of their denomination.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances,” the 1st Amendment reads.
Of course, politicians in Washington, D.C. and across the country have ignored the 1st Amendment and violated the religious liberty of Americans for years.
But it is not just crooked politicians who pose a threat to religious liberty.
According to a report by the Family Research Council, hostility and violence against churches in America is at an all-time high.
“They documented more than 430 incidents in 2023—more than double the number in 2022,” First Liberty reported. “That’s an 800% increase in incidents since 2018 and an average of 39 attacks every month.”
The report suggested that the attacks are growing more violent and more personal.
And one Florida man recently found this out the hard way.
A 37-year-old man decided to hold a sign with the Bible verse John 3:16 on it while standing at a busy intersection in Stock Island, Florida.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life,” the sign read.
But the man’s sign was too much for 50-year-old Jerome Hernandez.
Hernandez attacked the man and punched him and kicked him several times in an attempt to steal his sign.
“Jerome Hernandez, 50, of Key West, Florida, was charged with battery, disorderly intoxication, disturbing the peace, and robbery, Wednesday on Stock Island after attacking a man holding a sign displaying a Bible verse,” the Monroe County Sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook. “There were no life-threatening injuries reported.”
Hernandez was arrested and locked up in the local jail.
“Hernandez attacked a 37-year-old male holding a sign displaying the Bible verse John 3:16 at approximately 6:35 p.m. on Maloney Avenue,” the Monroe County Sheriff’s office also wrote on Facebook. “Hernandez punched and kicked the victim and attempted to steal the sign.”
All the young man did was stand by the road with a sign that had John 3:16 on it.
But that can get you beat up in America 2024.
