Tom Homan thought his biggest opposition would be Democrats and the media.
But members of the Republican Party are putting up roadblocks.
And Tom Homan issued one warning about RINO turncoats that left Ron DeSantis floored.
Tom Homan warns about Republicans against border security
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law a bill in February that required the state’s law enforcement to cooperate with the mass deportation of illegal aliens.
He had to battle with RINOs in the Florida Legislature over a watered-down version of the law.
The agriculture lobby in the state was opposed to having its cheap labor targeted by the Trump administration.
Republicans not wanting to do the right thing on illegal immigration extends beyond the state level.
“Border Czar” Tom Homan called out Republicans for not helping President Donald Trump with his border security agenda during an event with DeSantis in Florida.
“Let’s not forget, under Trump one, Trump 45, you had the House and the Senate. They didn’t help him,” Homan recalled. “And I’m not just talking about Democrats . . . So bottom line is, now we have both again and, as Governor DeSantis said, we’re not getting what we need.”
Trump has asked for a border security bill that would provide funding for mass deportations, construction of the border wall, and other border security measures.
“So they didn’t learn a lesson from the first administration. I was hoping and praying they learned a lesson. Let’s hope they come through … what have they done? Nothing,” Homan said. “So hopefully they wake up or … some Republican Senators and Congress need to leave. We need to vote them out because they’re not doing the right thing.”
Trump battles to get the resources he needs for deportations
The biggest obstacle to Trump’s mass deportation agenda is a lack of space to detain illegal aliens while they are waiting to be deported.
Tens of billions of dollars for new detention space and deportation flights are expected to be included in a potential border security package.
Congress passed a budget resolution that set the stage for them to use the budget reconciliation process.
A budget reconciliation bill allows Republicans to pass a spending bill on a party-line vote that can avoid a potential Senate filibuster by Democrats.
Trump has supported border security and an extension of his 2017 tax cuts rolled together into what he calls “one big, beautiful bill.”
House Republicans support the one-bill approach while the Senate wants to do separate border security and tax-cut bills.
“The House and Senate are doing a SPECTACULAR job of working together as one unified, and unbeatable, TEAM, however, unlike the Lindsey Graham version of the very important Legislation currently being discussed, the House Resolution implements my FULL America First Agenda, EVERYTHING, not just parts of it,” Trump wrote on Truth Social in February.
With narrow Republican majorities in Congress, there are members in the House and Senate who have hangups about parts of the bill.
The fate of Trump’s mass deportation agenda will come down to getting the resources needed to see it all the way through.
